Out of 20 hundred percentilers in CAT 2017, at least three of them are from the IITs. While Sai Praneeth Reddy is from IIT Madras and Chhavi Gupta is from IIT Delhi, Mayank Raj is from IIM Bombay.
A final year Civil Engineering student at IIT Bombay, Mayank Raj hails from Vishali in Bihar. He started preparing for CAT 2017 in July last year. After a year and half of hard work and self-study, Manyank managed cent percent marks which opens the doors for him to pursue management from the top IIMs.
Mayank expected above 99 percentile, so 100 percentile is nothing less than a bonus. “I’m extremely happy that I secured a 100 percentile. My parents, too, are thrilled,” Mayank told a news website.
“It was through my IIT journey that I realised I lacked management skills. So I decided to do an MBA course. It will help me with my aim to pursue a career in public policy,” Raj added.

He currently has a job offer in hand from ICICI Bank and says he will decide his next step depending on the interviews at IIMs.
Mayank’s father is a school teacher and mother homemaker. Talking about his prep strategy, Mayank said, he did not join any coaching institute instead took test series offered by TIME. Mock series helped him analyse his weak points and he worked on those.
The IIM Lucknow announced CAT 2017 results on January 8, 2018. This year, about 1.9 lakh students cracked the exam with 20 scoring cent percent marks. Although, last year too, 20 candidates had scored 100 percentile, but they were all male and from engineering background. This year, the equation is a bit different with 2 women and three non-engineers among the top 20.
Among the top 20 are Sai Praneeth Reddy from Andhra, Chhavi Gupta from Delhi and Mayank Raj from Mumbai, Meet Agarwal from Surat, Patrick Dsouza from Mumbai and Vishal Vora from Kolkata, Pramod Beri from Phagwara and others.

There is no minimum qualifying marks for CAT. Anybody scoring above 0 in the exam is eligible for admission, however the B-Schools select candidates on the basis of cut offs which are 60 and above percentile.

CAT cut off is prepared by all accepting colleges individually. There is no one authorized body to do so. Even the IIMs determine their admission cut offs separately.

If we're talking about GIBS Business School Bangalore, they don't have some super high CAT cutoff. In simple words, you don't need to be in the 99+ percentile to get considered.
- They look for a decent CAT score, usually around 70–80 percentile as a safe benchmark
- Scores are important, but they also ca

Not CAT necessarily, but still, you need to take a national-level entrance exam required for MBA admissions.

Most IIMs require a CAT percentile of 90 to 99 for MBA in Business Analytics. Private colleges like Great Lakes and NMIMS accept scores between the 70th and 85th percentile.
