The scheme of subjects and choices for Class 10 students will remain unchanged for the 2026 board examinations. CBSE will continue to offer 16 academic subjects, 23 skill subjects, and 45 languages.

CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh has clarified that the recently issued draft policy for conducting two board examinations in Class 10 has been framed following detailed deliberations and aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

In a statement, he has clarified that the draft policy allows students the flexibility to appear for a second board examination in as many subjects as they wish, providing an opportunity to improve their performance. The move aims to reduce stress among students and offer a fair chance to enhance their scores without waiting an entire year.

Singh emphasized that the scheme of subjects and choices for Class 10 students will remain unchanged for the 2026 board examinations. CBSE will continue to offer 16 academic subjects, 23 skill subjects, and 45 languages. Students will still be able to opt for two languages and three elective subjects, along with an additional skill subject and another language, making a total of up to seven subjects. The provision for candidates with special needs and other institutional relaxations will also remain intact, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all students.

A significant shift in the examination pattern includes the proposal to conduct examinations for some subjects two to three times to accommodate studentsโ€™ subject choices and reduce the overall exam duration. This change is expected to streamline the process and make scheduling more efficient. The CBSE has invited feedback from stakeholders, including parents, educators, and students, on its official website before finalizing the policy. The board believes that this participatory approach will help refine the system further and address any concerns raised by the public.

Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their views within the specified timeline as the board refines the scheme based on the responses received. The final policy is expected to be announced after careful consideration of the feedback, ensuring a well-rounded and effective implementation that benefits students nationwide.
