Now, candidates who have applied for exam must wait for the admit card. The GATE admit card 2026 release date is January 2. NOTE: The GOAPS portal now shows "Access Denied" while making any edits in application form, which means that the correction facility is closed.

What is GATE Exam?
The GATE is also called as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, which is a national-level entrance test held once a year to offer to offer admission to MTech and research programmes in IITs, IIITs, NITs, IISc, and other GFTIs. Every year, the exam is conducted by IISc, followed by seven IITs on a rotational basis.

The main objective of GATE exam is to assess analytical and problem-solving skills of candidates with an understanding of engineering, science, architecture, technology, arts, and humanities fundamentals at undergraduate level.

Important Details to Note Before Applying for the GATE 2026
- The mode of application form is online only
- Multiple submission of the application form is not allowed
- The registration fee must be paid online. The accepted payment modes are UPI, debit card, credit card, and online banking
- If a candidate wishes to appear in two papers, then the fees are doubled
- The admit card will be available for the students who have registered
- Requests for a change in the centre are not allowed after the admit card release
- For candidates appearing for the GG and XH papers, separate scores and ranking will be done based on their section selection
- For candidates appearing for architecture and planning, and geomatic engineering papers, no separate ranking or score will be provided based on their section selection
- No international exam centres are available. International applicants will have to travel to India to appear for the exam.

Candidates can check the GATE 2026 high-weightage topics for the following branches. It must be noted that the analysis and GATE 2026 predictions are solely based on the pattern of curated questions by the IIT Guwahati in the past year.
