The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) introduced a new MTech program in Climate and Sustainability at the 63rd convocation, beginning in July 2025. These courses aim to address the growing challenges in climate change, sustainability, and geophysical research, preparing students for cutting-edge careers in these fields.

Reflecting on IIT Bombay’s 66-year journey, Prof. Kedare highlighted the Institute’s growth from 2,500 students in 1965 to nearly 14,000 today. He also mentioned that with over 4,000 Ph.D. scholars, the Institute has firmly established itself as a global leader in education, research, and innovation. A total of 354 degrees, including 219 PhD degrees, were awarded. IIT Bombay reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and innovation, highlighting the need for skilled climate sustainability and geophysics professionals.

Q:   How long is the GATE score valid for admission in M.Tech?
A:

The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score is valid for three years from the year of release for M.Tech admission purposes. According to the sources, candidates seeking admission to M.Tech programs at IITs, NITs, etc., or a job at top PSUs in India require GATE scores to be eligible for application. Additionally, the GATE score validity for PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) job aspirants is for only a year. Therefore, if candidates have qualified in the GATE 2025 exams, they are eligible for M.Tech admissions for the next three years after releasing the GATE results, but the scores to land a PSU job are valid for only a year. Q:   Can I get admission to foreign universities through GATE 2026?
A:

Yes, there are few foreign top universities which offer admission based on GATE exam. Top universities in Singapore such as National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Universities in Germany such as RWTH Aachen and Technical University of Munich (TUM) offers admission based on GATE performance. 

Candidates must know that there may be external factors also in the admission criteria such as ILETS, TOFEL. So candidates must contact the university before applying for the admission process.
