The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi concluded the Winter phase of the third batch of its flagship STEM Mentorship Program for High School Girls. Tailored for students in Classes 9 and 11, the program saw enthusiastic participation from government-aided and private schools across Delhi-NCR. The event was graced by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi; distinguished alumni and alumnae from diverse fields; and Akshay Chhabra, Director of Technology Transformation at American Express (AMEX), the program's sponsor. Adding to the occasion's significance, alumnae of the STEM Program returned to share their journeys, making the event both memorable and nostalgic.
Students of the third batch were awarded certificates by Prof. Narayanan D. Kurur, Dean of Academics at IIT Delhi, in recognition of their successful completion of the program. Welcoming the cohort, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, emphasized the Institute's commitment to increasing female representation in STEM fields, highlighting this program as a key initiative toward achieving that goal.
Five-Day STEM Program
The Winter phase of the program spanned five days, featuring engaging lectures by IIT Delhi faculty and alumnae on diverse topics such as women's leadership in STEM, the role of AI in neuroscience, and algorithm design. Students also participated in a hands-on DIY workshop, fostering creativity and innovation through experiential learning.
The program concluded with a panel discussion where IIT Delhi alumni and alumnae shared their career journeys and provided valuable insights into overcoming challenges in STEM fields. Additionally, alumnae of the STEM Program reflected on their experiences, highlighting how the initiative shaped their aspirations and growth.
Launched in 2021 by Prof. Divya Nayar with just 10 student participants, the program has grown significantly, reaching a milestone this year with its largest-ever cohort of 80 registered participants. The 2023 edition was coordinated by Prof. Divya Nayar and Prof. Rohit Vaish under the guidance of Prof. Subodh Sharma and Prof. Shilpi Sharma (former and current Associate Deans of Academic Outreach & New Initiatives, respectively), alongside Prof. Narayanan D. Kurur, Dean of Academics.
