IIT Madras and Rotary Collaborate to Enhance Cybersecurity Awareness Among School Students

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has teamed up with Rotary District 3232 and FISST Academy to offer cybersecurity training to students in government and private schools. This innovative program seeks to equip students, specifically in classes 9th and 11th, with crucial cybersecurity knowledge, aiming to create a more secure digital landscape.

The training program will include engaging sessions, workshops, and practical activities conducted by experienced professionals and cybersecurity experts. Participants will learn to identify and address cyber risks through hands-on experience, which will strengthen their digital resilience.

Cybersecurity Awareness Training For School Students

The training of the first batch of students began their training on March 30, 2024, at IIT Madras, with the program scheduled for ten consecutive Saturdays. In total, 1,000 students will be trained in ten batches, each consisting of 100 students. This joint effort showcases Rotary’s dedication to education and community service, along with IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation's specialized knowledge in technology and cybersecurity.

Important Outcomes From This Program

  • Enhanced Cybersecurity Awareness: Equipping students with the knowledge to recognize and respond to cyber threats effectively
  • Safe Internet Practices: Educating students on best practices for secure online navigation and protecting personal information
  • Data Privacy Protection: Instilling understanding and practices to safeguard sensitive data and prioritize privacy in digital interactions
  • Digital Hygiene Promotion: Encouraging the adoption of good digital hygiene habits to mitigate cyber threats, such as regular software updates and strong password usage

Cybersecurity is increasingly crucial in today's interconnected world. With a rising reliance on digital platforms, the youth must be equipped with fundamental knowledge in this field. Through this program, students will receive comprehensive training covering the basics of cybersecurity, including understanding cyber threats, safe internet practices, data privacy, and digital hygiene.

Highlighting the need for such cybersecurity training, Mr. Rajendra Mootha, Vice President, IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, said, “Empowering students with cybersecurity education aligns with our mission to bridge the digital divide and create a secure digital ecosystem. We are honoured to join forces with Rotary to impart essential skills that will benefit students throughout their lives.”
