The committee's formation comes in response to the NEET UG 2024 paper leak controversy.

The High-Level Committee established by the Ministry of Education is convening its first formal meeting today. Chaired by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO, the committee is tasked with recommending comprehensive examination reforms and restructuring the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Committee's Mandate

The committee's formation comes in response to the NEET UG 2024 paper leak controversy. It aims to review examination procedures, improve data security protocols, and optimize the organizational structure of the NTA. The committee is expected to submit its findings within two months.

Immediate Actions

Subodh Kumar Singh, the former Director General of NTA, has been placed on compulsory wait, with Pradeep Singh Kharola assuming interim charge. This move aims to restore integrity and transparency in the examination process.

NEET UG 2024 Controversy

The NEET UG 2024 exam, held on 5th May 2024, faced backlash due to reports of paper leaks and malpractices. The controversy intensified when 67 students scored All India Rank 1, many from the same exam center, leading to public outcry. The Supreme Court ordered a re-examination for affected students, scheduled for today.

CBI Investigation

The Ministry has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the alleged irregularities comprehensively. This includes looking into cheating, impersonation, and breaches of trust by candidates and institutions. The Ministry has also enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, to prevent future issues.

Committee's Focus

The committee includes members like Dr. Randeep Guleria and Prof. B J Rao. Their task is to analyze and propose enhancements to the examination process, data security, and NTA’s structure, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in national-level examinations.
