There are a total of seven IISER institutes in India which provide admissions to the research-based courses at UG, PG and Phd Level. Being recognised as the finest research-based institutions in India, check out the courses offered, fees, admission process and placement offerings in these institutes.
Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) are premier research institutes established by the Government of India. IISERs are categorised as the best rank in the 'overall category' of NIRF rankings 2025. IISERs are autonomous institutes that award their own master's and doctoral degree students.

At IISERs, students can take admission in programmes such as Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Data Science, Earth & Climate Sciences/Earth & Environmental Sciences, Economic Sciences, Engineering Sciences (Chemical Engineering, Data Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), Geological Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences. Candidates need to note that Engineering Sciences and Economic Sciences courses are offered at IISER Bhopal only.

How to Get Admission in IISERs?
Admission to IISER is based on IAT exam. Students have to apply for IISER Aptitude Test online. Passed 10+2 from a recognized board with minimum 60% marks can apply for the test. The rank holders have to participate in the IISER counselling process. Students are offered course based on their rank. To confirm the admission students must pay the admission fee.

No, candidates are not allowed to get direct admissions to MSc courses at IISER Pune. Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, is one of the seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research, and candidates are not allowed to get direct admission into any of its offered courses. Moreover, to get admissions, candidates are required to appear in the relevant entrance exam associated with the offered specialisation.
The selection process for IISER Pune MSc courses differs according to the specialisations. Moreover, the selection process for the Master of Science course differs according to the offered specialisations. The selection process is done based on candidates' achieved scores on IIT JAM, GATE, IISER Entrance Test and the institute's in-house written test. For the only MSc in Mathematics in Computing Programme, the institute accepts written examination scores conducted by IISER Pune.

No, you cannot join IISER Thiruvananthapuram - Indian Institute of Science Education & Research directly. There are certain processes you need to follow. For UG :There are only three modes of admission: Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology and State and Central Boards Channel (SCB). Out of these whichever you feel the most appropriate, you can go with that option to take admissions.

IISER Pune
A research-intensive teaching institute, IISER Pune, was established in 2006 and started functioning from its NCL campus. Now, IISER Pune is spread across an area of 98 acres. The current campus of IISER Pune has 37,000 sq m of academic space in addition to 80,000 sq m of residential space.
IISER Pune is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, and since its inception, the institute has published 2,000 research papers. Facilities offered at IISER Pune include Research Labs (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), National Facility for Gene Function in Health and Disease (NFGFHD), Library, Career Development Centre (CDC) and hostels. IISER Kolkata
Established in 2006 by the Government of India, IISER Kolkata is functioning from its main campus located in Mohanpur, Nadia. IISER Kolkata has three hostels, which are the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Hall, the Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Hall and the Nivedita Hall. The library at IISER Kolkata has more than 29,000 books; this number includes 16,500+ print books and 13,000+ e-books.

IISER Mohali
Established in 2007 with a batch of 25 students, IISER Mohali only offered BS-MS dual degree programme to aspirants. In 2008, the institute started offering a PhD programme and in 2012 integrated PhD programme.

Established in 2015, IISER Tirupathi was the sixth institute to be established by the Government under the chain of IISERs. The permanent campus of IISER Tirupathi is close to IIT Tirupati. IISER Tirupati offers a hostel facility to its students. The hostel on the campus of IISER Tirupati has 184 rooms.
