WBJEE 2026 Seat Allotment Upgradation vs Freeze: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has released WBJEE 2026 seat allotment online at wbjeeb.nic.in/wbjee. After students are allotted, there is often confusion among students on whether to freeze their allotted seats or to choose upgradation. Students will be able to choose their preference after checking their WBJEE seat allotment 2026 and calculating their chances of being allotted their preferences in the upcoming counselling rounds.

Both Round 2 and 3 of WBJEE 2026 counselling are upgradation rounds; however, fresh registration and choice filling will also be open for new students. WBJEE 2026 Seat Allotment Upgradation vs Freeze: Mandatory Physical Reporting

Students have to remember that no matter which option they choose (freeze or upgrade), they will have to pay the WBJEE 2026 seat acceptance fee of INR 5000. The fee has to be paid online, i.e., through net banking/credit card/debit card before final date. After payment, they will also have to physically report to their allotted institute for document verification.

If students do not show up at their college for physical verification during the allotted dates, then their seat will be cancelled, and they will not be considered eligible for the remaining WBJEE counselling rounds.

  • After verifying the documents at the allotted institute, they will have to submit a ‘No Upgradation’ form.

  • The seat will be permanently locked, and the admission into the college will be confirmed. No changes can be made after the seat is permanently locked.

What is WBJEE Seat Allotment 2026 Upgradation?

Choosing WBJEE 2026 seat allotment upgradation means that the student is willing to accept the allotted seat but also wishes to give a chance for higher preference allotment during Round 2 counselling. 

  • Students should choose this option if they want to be allotted in a college or course that was higher than their current allotment in their choice filling list. 

  • For upgradation, they will have to report to their allotted college, verify their documents and submit their ‘Yes Upgradation’ form.

  • In the next round, the authorities will check if the students can be allotted into a higher preference while they hold onto their current seat as backup.

There are two possible outcomes if the students have submitted their ‘Yes Upgradation’ form after reporting to their allotted college. To know the possible outcomes and actions that should be followed, check the table given below.

The previously allotted seat will be completely safe. Students can proceed to complete admission formalities for the same.

WBJEE 2026 Counselling

WBJEEB conducts WBJEE counselling 2026 as an online process for admissions into the undergraduate engineering colleges of the state. During WBJEE counselling, they have to submit their details and pay the required fee. Selection of courses and colleges also has to be done according to preference. Once choices are submitted it cannot be changed. However, fresh registrations and choice filling are accepted for every round of counselling. WBJEE 2026 seat allotment is announced online. Allotment is done based on candidates' rank, preferences and seat availability. Once allotted, they have to confirm their admission by paying seat acceptance fee.

Yes, but only in private colleges through management quota, based on Class 12 marks, without needing WBJEE. Colleges like IEM, Heritage, Techno India, and Adamas offer this option.
Always check that the college is AICTE-approved before taking direct admission, as unapproved seats can create problems
