CLAT 2026 Registration: Process, Dates, Eligibility, Documents, and How to Apply

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most important law entrance exam for candidates looking for admission to the NLUs in India. The Consortium of NLUs released the CLAT 2026 Notification on 20-July-2025. As per the notification, the registration process started on 01-Aug-2025. The CLAT Application Window closed on 07-Nov-2025 on the CLAT official website; i.e. consortiumofnlus.ac.in. However, candidates who wish to edit their forms and pay the application fee were able to do so until 09-Nov-2025. The admit card for the test will now be issued to the successfully registered candidates online. The candidates who will have their CLAT hall tickets will only be able to enter the exam hall and sit for the exam. The aspirants will be required to carry a valid identity proof for verification.

Only those candidates who will submit the Application Form on or before the deadline will be issued CLAT Admit Card 2026. Without Hall Ticket, candidates will not be allowed to appear for test. List of documents required for CLAT Registration 2026

To complete the CLAT 2026 registration successfully, keep the following scanned documents ready in the prescribed format:

  • Recent passport-size photograph (clear, coloured – JPEG format, < 100 KB)
  • Scanned signature (JPEG format, < 100 KB)
  • Class 10 and 12 mark sheets (for UG applicants)
  • LLB degree/mark sheet (for PG applicants)
  • Caste/Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), if applicable
  • PwD certificate, if applicable
  • Domicile certificate (for domicile reservation claims in certain NLUs)
  • ID proof: Aadhaar, PAN card, Passport, etc.

Q:   Can I fill CLAT Application Form through mobile phone?
A:

See, it doesn't matter that you fill the form through laptop or phone. What matters is you fill the form. Yes, you should have good network connection and internet speed. It should not happen that you have filled the form and when you reach the last step you loose the connection. So what is important is network connection not the phone or laptop to fill the application form. 

Q:   What is the last date to fill CLAT Application Form 2027?
A:

The Consortium has not announced the last date to submit the CLAT Application Form yet. However, once the application process starts it mostly remain opens for three months. This gives candidates sufficient time to complete it and submit. 

Q:   I forgot to submit CLAT Application Fees. What should I do?
A:

Even with all the right documents, if you have not paid the application fee, your application form will be rejected. Since the application process cannot complete without submiting the fees. Once the window closes you won't be able to pay the fees or re fill the form.

  • Candidates must ensure to have the following minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination):
  • Forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories
  • Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
  • Candidates who may be appearing for their qualifying examination in March/ April, 2026 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2026 examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission"

How to Register for CLAT 2026?

Candidates can follow the simple steps given below to register for CLAT 2026 Exam:

Step 1: Go to the official website; i.e.consortiumofnlus.ac.in,

Step 2: Register as a new user

  • Click on “Register”
  • Enter your Name, Mobile Number, and Email ID
  • Create a secure password
  • Verify using OTP sent to your mobile/email

Step 3: Fill the Application Form

  • Choose your course (UG/PG)
  • Enter your personal details: Name, DOB, gender, etc.
  • Enter your academic details: Marks, board/university, year of passing
  • Select reservation category (if applicable)
  • Choose preferred test cities (up to 3)

Step 4: Upload Required Documents

  • Upload scanned photograph, signature, and category certificates

Step 5: Make the Application Fee Payment

  • General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI: INR 4,000
  • SC/ST/BPL: INR 3,500

(Extra INR 500 if opting for previous year CLAT question papers)

Payment Mode: Online via credit/debit card, UPI, or net banking

Q:   If I forget my CLAT Login ID or password. How should I fill the application form?
A:

You don't have to worry. In case you have forgotten your ID and password, which is pretty much normal. You can go and click on the forgot password tab in the registration window. You will receive the mail and then you have to reset your password. Once day you will be able to login. 

Q:   Can I fill CLAT Application Form offline?
A:

No, there is no such provision given by the Consortium to fill out the application form offline. Candidates must complete filling the CLAT Application Form 2027 on or before the last date. You can only fill out the application form online. The form will be considered submitted only if you pay the fees.

Q:   When CLAT Merit List will be released?
A:

The Consortium has released the CLAT Counselling Schedule. The CLAT First Merit List was released on January 7, 2026. The Consortium will release five round merit list. The second merit list was published on January22, 2026.

Step 6: Final Submission

  • Review all details carefully
  • Submit the application
  • Download and save a copy of your filled form and fee receipt for reference

How to Make Corrections in CLAT Application Form 2026?

The Consortium gives a chance to candidates to make changes in the CLAT Application Form. The CLAT Application Correction Window is open until 09-Nov-2025 for the registered candidates. Candidates who have already submitted their CLAT 2026 Application Form can edit certain areas in the same. Details that can be edited are:

Freeze option in CLAT Counselling means accept the NLU seat, lock it, and opt-out of the upgrade process. In this case, the fee becomes non-refundable and has to be paid before the last date. The candidate is removed from the counseling process for future rounds.

Yes, the CLAT counselling fee is refundable if no seat is allotted or if a student withdraws before the final date. A penalty of INR 5,000 may be applied if a seat is frozen and later withdrawn after May 30th.

There will be a total of 5 rounds for CLAT 2026. Students who make it to the merit list and who receive an invitation via email/SMS can register and pay the counselling fee. Students have to pay a fee of INR 30,000 for General and INR 20,000 for ST/SC/OBC/BC/EWS/PwD, for CLAT examination.
