NEET PG 2026 Eligibility Criteria

NEET PG 2026 eligibility is an important aspect of exam. Students have to fulfill eligibility requirements to appear for exam. Students of NEET PG exam should understand eligibility varies for Indian and foreign nationals. NEET PG 2026 Eligibility also depends upon the fact from which country someone has completed medical degree. It means, eligibility criteria is not same for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) and Indian medical graduates. Eligibility criteria comprises details about Internship, qualification, capping on age and attempt, medical registration etc. NBE, the exam conducting body releases official brochure, which includes details about eligibility criteria, pattern, marking scheme etc. Before getting into details about eligibility requirements for FMGs, let’s understand about FMGs first. Who all are Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs)?

Those Indian medical students who completes their primary medical education from foreign countries are called Foreign Medical Graduates. They have to qualify Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in order to get license and practice in India. In addition, FMGs can also appear for NEET PG exam to practice in India.

Q:   I got 535 marks in NEET PG. Will I get government college?
A: 

500 plus marks is considered a decent score in NEET PG  exam. If a candidate score 535 marks that means his/her rank will be somewhere around 1000-2000. With that score, there is a chance to get admission in government college. Good score also depends on difficulty level of the question paper. If the question paper is difficult then cut off will be low. In 2023-24 session, general category cut off was 291 while the cut off for SC/ST was 257. Overall 500 plus marks will enable you to get admission in good college for PG course.

Q:   Can I get test city of my choice in NEET PG?
A: 

Candidates may or may not get test city of their choice in NEET PG. Though the exam conducting body tries to allot candidate the exam city of their preference but sometimes it is not possible as the allotment is done on first come first serve basis. The choice of city also depends on availability of the test centres in a particular city. It must be noted once allotted the test city can't be changed in any circumastances.

Q:   Who releases cut off for NEET PG?
A: 

National Board of Examinations (NBE) releases cut off for NEET PG. It must be noted the cut off is releases along with NEET PG result. Candidates have to score minimum cut off to qualify for the exam. The minimum cut off is different for different category. For the general category, the minimum qualifying cut off is 50 percentile marks while for SC/ST, the qualifying cut off is 40. The cut off depends on a number of factors including the difficulty level of the exam, number of candidates appeared etc.

Q:   What are the qualifying cut off for NEET PG?
A: 

Qualifying cut off vary as per the category. Candidates of unreserved category have to score little more than their counterparts of reserved category to qualify for NEET PG exam. Check the categorywise qualifying cut off in the table given below:

NEET PG 2026 Eligibility for Foreign Medical Graduates

Students have to fulfill eligibility criteria as provided in official brochure. NBE will upload brochure on its official website, nbe.edu.in. Check eligibility criteria for FMGs given below:

Nationality: Those FMGs who want to appear for NEET PG exam should be Indian or Overseas citizen of India

Primary Medical Education: Students must have completed primary education from foreign medical colleges or universities, which are recognized by medical council/authority of that particular country.

Internship: Internship must have been completed before deadline as provided by NBE in brochure

FMGE Qualified: They must have qualified FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam) conducted by NBE. The exam is held twice a year. Students should have pass certificate before deadline.

Registration certificate: Eligible students should have registration certificate of medical council or any state council of India

NEET PG eligibility 2025 for Foreign Nationals

Students must note these foreign national are those who don’t have cleared FMGE exam in India. Check NEET PG eligibility criteria for Foreign Nationals given below:

MBBS or Equivalent Degree: Such students should have a valid MBBS or equivalent degree from recognized college/university of particular country

Registered with medical authority: To appear for NEET PG exam, students should have registered with respective medical authority of their country.

Security go-ahead: Foreign Nationals seeking medical admission into PG course must have got clearance from Ministry of Home, Government of India.

Q:   Will the authorities reduce the cutoff percentile for NEET PG 2025?
A: 

The qualifying/ cutoff percentile for NEET PG can be lowered if there are not enough candidates for the counselling process. Such decisions will be taken in consultation with the Medical Council of India and will be informed to the test-takers via an official notification. In 2023, MCC had reduced NEET PG cut off percentile to zero for all category for stray vacancy round counselling. MCC had reduced cut off for 2024-25 session as well. Reduction of NEET PG cut off depends on many factors including number of vacant seats to be filled up. 

Q:   Who releases the list of centres for NEET PG?
A: 

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) releases the list of centres for NEET PG. Candidates have to choose a preference of the exam centre while applying online for the exam. NBE will allot the exact name and address with the admit card. Candidates will have to download the admit card once the exam-conducting body activates the link online. 

Q:   How many attempts are allowed in NEET PG?
A: 

NBE conducting body has not specified any limit regarding number of attempts in NEET PG exam. At same time, there is no age limit for exam. Candidates can appear as many times as they want in their prusuit of postgraduate medical courses. Candidates are advised to check official information brochure, comprising eligibility criteria and other crucial details related to exam.

Around 2 Lakh candidates appear for NEET PG every year. The number varies every year. Around 2.40 lakh candidates had appeared in NEET PG 2025 exam. A total of 2,28,540 candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2024 exam. In NEET PG 2023, around 2,06,541 candidates appeared for the exam. NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3 and result was announced on August 19, 2025.

No, NBE will not send the NEET PG 2026 admit card via post. The admit card will be uploaded online on the official website of NBE, and candidates will have to download it through their registration login credentials.
