UGC Recognizes New National Level Vedic Education Board: Certificates Equated with Central/State Boards
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a crucial directive to universities and higher education institutions across India regarding the establishment of the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Sanskrit Shiksha Board (MSRVSSB) at the national level.
This newly established board's certificates will now be considered equivalent to those issued by other Central and State school boards for the purposes of higher education admissions and employment in government bodies.
As per a UGC letter, in a communication received from the Ministry of Education, it has been confirmed that the MSRVSSB, operating under the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratisthan (MSRWP) in Ujjain, has been officially recognized as a regular school board. The certificates awarded by MSRVSSB for their Veda Bhushan (equivalent to Grade 10) and Veda Vibhushan (equivalent to Grade 12) programs are now deemed equivalent to the certificates issued by other recognized boards in India.
The recognition was formalized following the concurrence of the Department of School Education and Literacy, in consultation with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), with the board's various bye-laws and statutory requirements. Subsequently, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) accorded equivalence to the MSRVSSB’s qualifications in a letter dated August 3, 2022.
UGC Secretary, Prof. Manish R. Joshi, in a letter, has requested all universities and higher education institutions to acknowledge this development and take necessary actions in compliance with the Ministry of Education's directive. This recognition marks a significant step towards integrating Vedic education within the mainstream educational framework of India, ensuring that students who pursue these courses have equal opportunities for further studies and employment.
This initiative aligns with the government's broader vision of promoting traditional knowledge systems while ensuring that students from diverse educational backgrounds can access higher education and government employment on an equal footing.
