NEET 2025 Exam Date to be Announced Soon

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to announce the NEET 2025 exam date anytime soon. While last year's NEET exam date was announced as early as September, this year it has not been announced till December first week, making aspirants anxious.

Based on past years’ trends, it is estimated that the NEET 2025 exam will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM across India and abroad. Owing to the massive controversy marring the sole undergraduate medical entrance exam in India, NTA has set up an expert committee headed by former ISRO Chairman   K Radhakrishnan. The committee has made several recommendations to make NEET 2025 fairer and transparent. Hence, it is expected that major changes will be introduced in this year’s NEET exam.

As per the latest media reports, NEET 2025 exam is likely to be conducted in computer-based mode (CBT) to avoid incidents such as paper leak or wrong distribution of question paper sets or mediums. However, official confirmation is pending from NTA and the Ministry of Education. Let us take a look at the expected changes in NEET 2025 exam.

Expected Changes in NEET 2025

Here we bring the list of expected changes in NEET 2025 exam, based on the NTA expert committee recommendations:

  • Exam to be held in Computer-based Mode: The major change which is likely to be introduced in NEET 2025 is the shift in the mode of the exam from offline to online. Since inception, NEET is conducted in a traditional paper-pencil based mode (PBT). Based on the recent scenarios, it is likely that the exam mode may get converted to CBT mode.
  • Conduct of NEET in multiple slots: As of now, NEET is conducted in a single day and slot. Given the high number of test takers (around 25 lakh), it gets cumbersome for the exam authorities to manage the smooth conduct of the exam. Hence, there are chances that NEET 2025 may be conducted over a window of multiple days and slot.
  • Change in NEET 2025 exam pattern: At present, NEET exam carries 200 questions out of which 180 questions have to be attempted. There are five optional questions in each subject of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Based on the recent speculations, the optional questions may be removed from the NEET 2025 exam pattern, similar to that of the recent change introduced in the JEE Main exam.
  • Limits on NEET Attempts: The committee proposes capping the number of NEET attempts per candidate, encouraging candidates to prepare thoroughly. Moreover, there are also suggestion to re-introduce upper age limit in the NEET eligibility criteria to reduce competition level.

At present, these changes are at the evaluation stage and no concrete resolution has been passed yet. While some of these changes may come into place, some may not be materialized. On the other hand, it is expected that the NEET 2025 syllabus will remain the same as last year when it underwent major changes.

NEET or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the sole entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses in India. Around 20 lakh candidates appear for NEET every year which is conducted across India and a few
