NIT Rourkela Admission 2026: Cutoff, Fees, Eligibility & Application

NIT Rourkela MBA application window generally opens in the month of Jan. The registrations close by Feb. After the closing of the application portal, the university will further release the list of the shortlisted candidates for GD-PI rounds.

After JEE session 2 is completed, only those candidates who are aiming for IITs need to start preparing for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Those who are above the 98th percentile should start preparing for JEE Advanced as soon as possible. Those below this, between the 95th and 98th percentile, should focus on attempting more mock tests and previous year question papers so that they have a better chance of clearing JEE Advanced

NIT Rourkela offers courses in UG, PG and part-level. The Institute offers admission based on valid scores of accepted entrance exams such as JEE Main/ GATE/ IIT JAM or other equivalent. Candidates are required to qualify for the JoSAA counselling and seek final admission based on the qualification of all the selection rounds. 

The total tuition fee of NIT Rourkela BSc programme is INR 75,000 which is to be paid over 10 semesters. Each semester a student has to pay INR 7,500 as tuition fee. However, this is not the only fee one has to pay throughout a semester. Extra costs like medical fees, student activity fee, hall establishment fee, etc. are also added in each semester.

Thus the total fees to be paid by a student is close to INR 5.93 lakh, if one adds all the costs in each semester, the average cost each semester for five years is INR 56,500 in which the first and last semester have admission fee and graduation fee, respectively.

The selection criteria for B.Tech at NIT Rourkela is entrance based with the institute accepting JEE MAIN scores for the same. The minimum eligibility is passing Class 12 in PCM/PCMB stream with atleast 50% aggregate.

There are various factors that play an important role in deciding the NIT Rourkela JEE Main 2023 cut off marks for admission to the BPlan and B.Arch programme. Listed below are the determining factors that are considered while releasing the NIT Rourkela JEE Main cut off 2023, including:

Opening and Closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For General category under All India, opening rank was 25494 and closing rank was 43498. Cut offs are different when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. In All India, opening and closing rank for female candidates was 25048 and 59818. Admission to BTech +M.Techin Chemical Engineering at NIT Rourkela - National Institute of Technology is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exams like JEE. Applicants are advised to first confirm the category in which they are applying and then check the cut-offs.

The NTA has released the exam dates for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2. Paper 1 (BE/ BTech) will be administered between April 2, 2026 to April 9, 2026. The Session 2 registration will open in the last week of January. The applicants are requested to fill the application form available on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Candidates must first check the minimum eligibility and selection criteria for the course they want to pursue. If a student meets the minimum eligibility, then he/she can go ahead by completing the application process. NIT Rourkela further grants admissions based on merit in the last qualifying or entrance examinations and performance in the respective counselling round. For popular courses such as BTech, MTech, and MSc, admission is based on merit in national-level exams JEE Main,  GATE, and IIT JAM.

For courses like BTech, MTech, or MSc, students will have to apply on the respective accepted exam portal such as NTA, GOAPS, and IIT JAM, respectively. Below-mentioned is the application process for PG and PhD courses:

1. Visit the official website, nitrkl.ac.in/ or on the respective entrance exam portal, such as NTA (nta.ac.in) for JEE.
2. Fill out the application form.
3. Upload the documents.
4. Pay the application fee.
5. Submit and print the application form.

NIT Rourkela MSc is a PG level course offered for the duration ranging from 2 years to 5 years. The institute offers MSc on the basis of valid entrance scores such as IIT JAM, CCMN, JEE Main, DASA UG or equivalent. The total tuition fees of the MSc ranges from INR 30K to INR 75K. 

Aspirants have to apply for the GATE exam to pursue M.Tech from NITs. Hence, the applicant must take the GATE exam followed by CCMT counselling. Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria can visit GATE 2023 website (gate.iitk.ac.in) to apply. Further, admission will be granted based on scores in the national-level exam, counselling, and cutoff for NIT Rourkela.

The students of NIT Rourkela can apply for scholarships offered by the National or State Government. PhD scholarship/ fellowship is also offered to students by the institute. Below mentioned are the details of some of the NIT Rourkela Scholarships:

1. Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS): SC/ ST students are eligible for Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Government.
2. Top Class Scholarship: Among the admitted students in the first year top 12 SC students and top 5 ST students are eligible for the scholarship by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GOI provided their parental annual income is below INR 4.5 lakh.
3. GATE Scholarship: Students who have taken admission through GATE are eligible for a scholarship of INR 8,000 per month.
4. PhD scholarship: A PhD student with MTech/ MPharm degree and within the age limit is eligible for an Institute research fellowship for four years. The students will get INR 31,000 per month for the first two years and INR 35,000 per month for the next two years on satisfactory performance.

NIT Rourkela BArch is a UG level course offered for the duration of 5 years in the full-time mode. The Institute offers BArch on the basis of valid scores of JEE Main with a total tuition fees worth INR 6.25 Lakh.
