Engineers these days work in every sector, be it hospitals, banks, schools and corporates. While many engineering graduates choose the traditional career paths like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electronics & Communication, there are a lot of engineers who move to non-engineering careers like teaching, banks and civil services. The careers in non engineering fields are equally rewarding, both in terms of stability and salaries.
No, JEE exams are not mandatory for BSc admissions at IIT Madras. Candidates who wish to take admissions into the BSc course at IIT Madras must appear for IISER entrance examination. The admissions into IIT Madras BSc courses are decided on merit basis where, the scores obtained by candidates in the IISER entrance exam are taken into account to decide the admissions.
Report to JEE Main exam centre as per time mentioned in admit card. Try to report at least one hour before JEE Mains exam starts. The first shift of exam starts at 9 am and the second shift at 3 pm.

Banks: Most people see banks as cash withdrawl and deposit functionaries. However, banking is much more than the retail banking tasks. Non-retail banking tasks include loans, credits and corporate handlings for their financial demands. Both govt and non-govt banks offers highly lucarative salaries with promising growth and career advancements.
Schools and Colleges: Coaching institutes for JEE Mains and NEET have a large number of engineering graduates teaching the future engineers to fulfill their dream of joining colleges like IITs, NITs. With the rising demands of teachers at primary and secondary level in schools, many BTech graduates are these days becoming school teachers and contributing to this noble career.
IIT Kanpur offers a four-year BS degree (Bachelor of Science) which is also referred to as BSc by many. At the undergraduate level, IIT Kanpur offers this programme in full-time and it provides both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Science. Available across six specialisations, admission to this programme is entrance exam-based (JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced).
The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Main are
- Candidate must have passed class 12 in 2024/2025 or appearing in 2026.
- There is no age limit to appear in JEE Mains
- No minimum percentage is required to appear in the JEE Mains exam. 75% marks is required for admission in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
- Candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/any other vocational subject for Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech). For paper 2, candidates need to have Mathematics as compulsory subject along with any other subject combination. Candidates can appear in JEE for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12
With respect to the past years' cutoff, Mathematics and Scientific Computing is considered to be the most competitive specialisation under this programme. Followed by this, Statistics & Data Science and Economics are the popular specialisations available at IIT Kanpur. However, a specialisation must be selected out of interest, past academic experience and qualification rather than on the basis of popularity and competitiveness.
Defence Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force): Engineers are among the foremost people to stand guarding the nation on battlefields. The Army recruits BTech graduates every year through the Technical Entry Scheme (TEC). Many engineering graduates also join defence forces through Combined Defence Services (CDS) examintion.
Civil Services: This is among the highly sought career opportunity by engineering graduates. The power and prestige of civil services attaracts graduates from every fields and engineers are second to none in cracking this exam.
Corporate Sector: Corporates are full of engineers sitting in cubicles solving some computer codes or analysing data, consumer demands. Companies like TCS, HCL, Microsoft hire BTech graduates solve complex computer codes, and for various other roles like product development & management.
