The process of admission in NITs is regulated by Centralised Counseling for MTech or CCMT. The concerned body will prepare the Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering (GATE) cutoff for NITs which will help in the process of admissions.
GATE qualifying cutoff is institute eligibility cutoff, and on other hand, GATE admission cutoff ensures a call for admission at IITs, NITs, IITs, and CFTIs. Check below in detail:
GATE Qualifying Cutoff: It is minimum mark a candidate must score so that he or she is eligible for admission. But this does not mean that a candidate is selected for admission. Actually, it is fixed before announcement of GATE results. It is announced by conducting IIT and available on GOAPS. It includes qualifying marks for each paper.
Admission GATE Cutoffs: It is final opening and closing rank score fixed by participating institutes for selection of candidates. It is to be noted here that meeting admission GATE cutoff does not mean that candidates will be selected for admission. It is fixed after GATE result date. It is declared by individual participating institutes and available on their respective counselling portals (CCMT/ COAP).

The exam-conducting authority (IIT Roorkee) will decide the GATE cutoff 2025. It is conducted across the country jointly by IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and the Indian Institute for Science, Bangalore (IISC Bangalore), on a rotational basis on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB-GATE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD), Government of India. The GATE cutoff will be released with the official result. Candidates who clear the GATE 2025 cutoff marks will be eligible for the counselling procedure. Candidates will be able to check their marks on the official website. A direct link will also be provided on our webpage once it is released. As we know, the cutoff for the GATE exam will be based on the number of students who appear in the examination, the difficulty level of the exam, the average marks scored by the maximum number of candidates, etc. Read more about the GATE 2025 Cutoff: https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam-cutoff.
The authority revises the GATE cutoff every year. The GATE 2025 cutoff will be released along with the result. Although the cutoff might remain the same for two consecutive years, the conducting IIT releases a revised cutoff every year. An aspirant cannot qualify for the exam on the basis of the previous year's GATE cutoff. The number of applicants for the GATE exam varies every year. Therefore, on average, around one million students register for the exam. These students came from different educational backgrounds, like engineering, Science, and mathematics. Basically, GATE is a gateway for those candidates who want to take admission into several postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, and Science fields offered by prestigious institutes, including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other universities across the country. Also secures employment in public sector undertakings that recruit candidates based on their GATE score. In GATE, normalisation process generally makes a gap of 4 to 7 marks (approximately) between actual and normalised scores. However, if difficulty level of paper was high then the marks might increase. On other hand, for easier paper, marks may reduce offering fairness across sessions.
