Impact of Reduced Syllabus for JEE Main 2021

The COVID-19 spread across the country has put the entire world to a halt including the education sector. Due to the pandemic, entrance examinations were delayed leading to various doubts among students. The same is true for NTA JEE Main, one of the biggest engineering entrance exams in India.

Along with rumours related to schedule and exam pattern, there were also speculations regarding the reduction in JEE Main 2021 syllabus. However, the recent address of Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has clarified that students may have to study a reduced syllabus for boards that automatically impacted the reduction in JEE Main syllabus 2021.

These topics are required to understand some other concepts in different chapters and also sometimes needed to begin a new chapter or topic. The same is describe below subject-wise.

Physics: There are total 9 chapters of Class 11 and 10 chapters of Class 12 that have been deleted from the board syllabus. From of these chapters are very necessary to understand other topics. For example, the Frame of Reference is deleted from the syllabus which is mandatory to understand Rest and Motion. Only after understanding rest and motion, we can start Kinematics. Similarly, only after understanding Newton's (which is also deleted from the syllabus) is mandatory to proceed with the chapter "Law of conservation of Linear Momentum"

Mathematics: Alteration in 16 chapters of Class 11 and 13 chapters of Class 12. Shifting of Origins, Inverse Functions, Inverse Trigonometric Functions and various other topics have been deleted. Now again the challenge is the same as if a student doesn't study shifting of origins, he/she can't use it in complex numbers.

Chemistry: 16 chapters of class 11 and 14 chapters of Class 12 have witnessed changes. In addition to it, various experiments performed in class 11 and 12 have also been deleted. In line with Mathematics and Physics chemistry has also a list of deleted chapters that are required to understand a number of topics and concepts.

Other than these chapters, there are also few chapters and topics in all the three subjects which will not impact the preparation of a candidate for JEE Main 2021. Such chapters are Physical world in Physics; Linear Programming in Mathematics and Polymers in Chemistry.

Minimising Impact of Reduced JEE Main 2021 Syllabus: Preparation Tips

With the above analysis, it can be said that the changes may be introduced in 11th and 12th standard syllabus due to the impact brought by the current COVID-19 pandemic but it should not influence the preparation at any level. The JEE Main 2021 aspirants need to prepare just like the students of previous years. Candidates can go through the preparation tips for the reduced syllabus.

  • Students must refer to the NCERT books. The authorities will not divert from these references
  • Preparation methodology or study plan should not be altered as per the changes proposed. Students must concentrate on covering the entire syllabus so that they may attempt all the questions
  • Students should refer to the previous year’s syllabus. Leaving any topic as per the reduced syllabus may impact candidates understanding of topic
  • There should be no lag in preparation. An early start is important for scoring well in the examination

So, for all the engineering exam aspirants, changes may be introduced in the syllabus of Class 11 and 12 but it should not influence the preparation at any level. Though they can leave the out of syllabus topics but other than that there should not be any loopholes in the Preparation for JEE Main 2021.

No. The JEE Mains emphasizes on deep knowledge and quote challenging with negative marking whereas KCET is moderately difficult which emphasizes on direct factual questions with no negative markings.
