The National Testing Agency (NTA) postponed the JEE Main from April to July in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. As the COVID-19 cases are still on the rise in the country, according to sources, it is unlikely to conduct the exam on scheduled dates.
The postponement of JEE Main is also expected as sources from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) also stated that the situation doesn't seem conducive to conduct the examinations. Along with that, the following are the reasons for JEE Main to be deferred.

JEE Main 2020 to be postponed or not; know what students want
Reason-1: As the situation of COVID-19 is quite adverse in India currently, MHRD sources have stated that some exams (Pending CBSE board exams) may get cancelled. However, there are very little chances of entrance exams such as the JEE main to be cancelled but it is likely to be postponed.
Reason-2: Educational institutions across the country have been closed since March 16 as a preventive measure to stop the spread of Coronavirus. For JEE Main 2020, a number of schools/educational institutes have to be reopened. As per the Ministry of Home Affairs, the decision to reopen the educational institutes will be taken only after a meeting with the stakeholders in July.
Reason-3: A group of parents and students have filed a petition to cancel the pending CBSE Board exams scheduled from July 1-15. If the CBSE remaining board exams are cancelled by the apex court. JEE Main has to be postponed as it is scheduled from July 18.
Reason-4: In June, many students used the social media platform Twitter to request the MHRD for cancellation of JEE Main. Earlier this month, ‘#postponeJEE’ was trending on Twitter. Students under this hashtag listed several reasons to cancel the exam. Some said that conducting the exam in July would risk thousands of life including students and their families as well.
Students also requested the authorities through the social media platform to not conduct the exam until the number of Coronavirus cases in India becomes zero. Many students also said that the chaotic situation due to COVID-19 is hampering their studies as they have a fear of getting affected with the virus during the exam.
Reason-5: According to the sources from MHRD, entrance exams such as JEE Main and NEET are difficult to cancel. These exams are crucial for admission to engineering and medical courses. So, these exams will be postponed to another date but can’t be cancelled.
