  • Cancel the JEE Main 2020

  • Do not change JEE main 2020 dates
  • Why JEE main can’t be cancelled?

Cancel the JEE Main 2020

A majority (at least 60 percent) of the students who are going to appear for the JEE Main 2020 in July have requested to cancel the exam. The only reason behind it is the Coronavirus. The cases across India are not reducing though the recovery rate has been improved significantly and it is not enough for the exam like JEE Main to be conducted. With more than 9 lakh registrations for the upcoming exam in July, conducting JEE Main 2020 will only make the situation of pandemic worse. The fear of getting affected with the COVID-19 has forced the students to say the JEE Main 2020 should be cancelled.

Postpone the JEE Main 2020

Around 35 percent of students requested the authorities to postpone the JEE Main 2020 scheduled to be conducted from July 18-23. It is expected that the number of cases of Coronavirus may start decreasing from mid of July which will be a relief for students.

Students suggested that the JEE Main can be conducted in the first or second week of August. With strict guidelines for social distancing and medical prevention (masks, gloves, sanitization etc.), the exam can be conducted in August.

Some also suggested to conduct the exam in November but it is not feasible. In the case of JEE Main 2020 is conducted in November, the session will start from January. It is the time when the JEE Main 2021 will be expected to be conducted. Moreover, most of the colleges in India start their new semester from mid of January. It can be said that the most feasible date for JEE Main 2020 is in the first or second week of August.

Do not change JEE main 2020 dates

There are some students who also suggested that the JEE Main 2020 dates should not be changed. It must be conducted on July 18-23. According to them, deferring the exam has already created a lot of pressure on them which is hampering their studies. If the exam postponed again, the pressure will be unbearable. It may cause to lose their interest in studies and they may not perform in the JEE Main 2020 as per the expectations.

It is likely that the MHRD and the NTA will be considering all the above factors before deciding to cancel or postpone the JEE Main 2020 July exam. The authorities are expected to soon announce their decision regarding the exam.

However, it is also important for students to understand that the exams like JEE Main cannot be cancelled, it can only be postponed. Students can understand the same by referring to the analysis below.

Why JEE main can’t be cancelled?

For the National Testing Agency and Ministry of Human Resource Development, it is impossible to conduct the JEE Main exam. To understand it, read below.

  • JEE Main is the only exam conducted for admission undergraduate engineering courses (BTech) offered at NITs, IIITs and various other institutes.
  • The exam also is a gateway for JEE Advanced which is conducted for admission to IITs.
  • Cancelling the exam will hamper the process of admitting students to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs/CFTIs.
  • Some may argue that the admission to these institutes can be based on the students’ class XII marks. However, marks in class XII can’t be considered especially in 2020. The reasons behind it are as follows:
    • There are examples of many students in the past year who couldn’t perform well in their class XII board exams but they scored good marks in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
    • In 2020, due to the COVID-19, few of the board exams have been cancelled. Students were awarded marks based on their internal assessments. So, if a candidate couldn’t perform well in the internal assessments and was likely to do well in the boards, admission on merit basis will be a setback for him/her.
  • Moreover, the JEE Main 2020 January marks can’t also be considered. Many students did not appear in the exam earlier this year as they were preparing for the boards. They prepared for JEE Main 2020 April exam.
  • Considering the above factors, it becomes necessary for exam conducting authorities to conduct the JEE Main this year as well.

In this adverse time, shiksha.com request all the students to be calm. The decision taken by the authorities will be in favour of students only.

The above article is entirely based on students’ views/comments on shiksha.com

No. The JEE Mains emphasizes on deep knowledge and quote challenging with negative marking whereas KCET is moderately difficult which emphasizes on direct factual questions with no negative markings.
