The JEE Mains exam contains three sections:
1.Maths
2.Physics
3.Chemistry
The maximum marks you could score in the exam are 360. Following are the tips for JEE preparation:
- Follow NCERT textbooks as most of the questions will appear in the exam from them. Go only through those chapters that will fetch you maximum score. Especially for chemistry and physics, NCERT books are a must.

- Spend at least two hours on mock tests. These mock tests play a vital role in one’s preparation. It can assess your capability and based on the performance, you can know your weak areas. The main objective behind the mock tests is to:
- Analyse your performance
- Know your weak areas
- Find solutions to the wrongly answered questions
- Checking that the same mistake wouldn’t be repeated in the next mock test
As the exam is online, take mock tests on a desktop or laptop. Therefore, you will be adapted to that thing.
- Allocate 90-120 minutes daily to each subject and in that stipulated time, work on the topics that you are not confident in.
Note: In order to clear JEE Mains, one has to have a “complete hold” on the 11th or 12th syllabuses. Class 11th and 12th contribute to about 45 percent and 55 percent of the JEE papers, respectively.
- For Mathematics, spend most of the time in the early mornings. It is the best time to grasp things easily, as your mind will be fresh and calm then.
(It is believed that people who study in the early mornings tend to excel better and can do faster calculations).
- It is crucial for clearing JEE Mains. It is not about how many questions you solve, rather it is about how many questions you are able to solve correctly. If you are not able to solve a question, don’t spend too much time on it, better move to the next problem. Try to solve easier questions rather than focusing your time on the difficult ones.
- Have a glance at the previous year’s papers. You could know the pattern of the questions through the same. There are high chances that the same models might repeat. Solve tons of previous year’s papers. You can get the previous year’s JEE papers on the internet.
- There is no point in studying if you do not remember anything. Our memory fades away gradually. Therefore, there should be a regular revision to retain information. It plays a vital role in securing high marks.
- Confidence is necessary for any competitive exam. You cannot do well if you are not confident enough, even if you are good with concepts. Just believe in yourself and work harder.
- If you are doing well in JEE then clearing 12th exams with a good score won’t be a great deal. However, it would be good if you daily spend a productive hour for the preparation of 12th
- Eat healthy food and avoid junk at least one month before JEE exam. Sleep properly. Avoid last-minute preparation as it may cause stress and pressure.
- Don’t think about marks during the examination. Just focus and try to find out the easiest and less time-consuming problems.
- Practice makes a man perfect. The more you practice, the more you will excel. So, never deviate yourself from practice. It will boost your confidence.
- The zeal of achieving your goal is the key factor that defines your level of hard work.
Henceforth, the key parameters are hard work, a preparation based on mock tests, zeal to achieve the target, confidence and quality of the subject you possess.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?
- NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Cutoffs:
- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
