Before preparation, you need to work-out and analyse your strengths and weaknesses in all three subjects. This can be done effectively by keeping the syllabus with yourself and then writing the topics in which you are good or thorough.
JEE Mains is one of the important entrance exams for science students. Now, with less than two weeks left for this exam, I would like to share certain tips that would ease your JEE Mains preparation from here on.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
First, the most important things for an effective and satisfactory score in JEE are hard work, dedication, fulfilling efforts and lots of motivation. Self-motivation plays a vital role.
Second, it is important to do smart and effective work for excellent output. The third most important thing is Time Management, which is the key to success in any area.
Before preparation, you need to work-out and analyse your strengths and weaknesses in all three subjects. This can be done effectively by keeping the syllabus with yourself and then writing the topics in which you are good or thorough. Then begin writing topics for which you are not fully prepared. Lastly, write the topics which you find difficult or which you have not practiced. This strategy should be planned for all three subjects.
After this analysis, try to concentrate more on the second list as these topics would require more time to practice and revise. So, concentrating more on the second list will make those topics thorough and good for you. However, this list varies from student to student.
Another key element for the best preparation and score is the sequence order of the subjects:
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
This sequence is made according to the difficulty level and scoring elements in the JEE Mains exam, i.e. Chemistry is easy, Maths is medium and Physics is a bit hard. It is a fact that one can score better in chemistry, followed by Maths and Physics. Below are the subject wise tips for effective preparation of JEE Mains:
Note: This is not according to any particular student but it is in a general manner after analysing the paper and subject-wise concentration.
Chemistry
- Try to take less time to solve the questions of chemistry.
- Follow NCERT book for Chemistry. It is the key book for chemistry to prepare for JEE Mains.
- Create your personal notes of chapter wise important topics from NCERT book in order to enhance retention.
- Weightage of chemistry:
- Physical Chemistry: 35%
- Organic Chemistry: 35%
- Inorganic Chemistry: 30%
Maths
- The good thing about Maths in JEE Mains is that a lot of questions can be solved or attempted by substituting the question, putting the values randomly or by eliminating the options.
- Mathematics in JEE Mains is highly predictable with a similar number and types of questions asked from each chapter.
- Time can be saved if we learn how to answer the questions by substituting the values or eliminating the options.
- Weightage of Mathematics:
- Algebra: 35%
- Calculus: 32%
- Coordinate Geometry & Vector: 25%
- Trigonometry: 8%
Physics
- Pick up and solve easy topics first.
- Try not to over attempt.
- Solve previous years’ JEE Mains questions.
- Weightage of Physics:
- Mechanics: 35%
- Current Electricity & EMI: 20%
- Electrostatics: 18%
- Optics & Modern Physics: 17%
- Heat & Thermodynamics: 10%

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
