Are you preparing to appear for JEE Mains to be held between January 6-10? Here are some things you can keep in mind to score well in the exam.
Juggle between Class 12th and JEE Mains preparation:
One of the most important things to be taken into consideration is that board exams mainly focus on the theory part, however, the JEE Mains focuses on the concepts and practice. Also, one should optimise equally the time for board and JEE Mains with a detailed and well-structured plan. Always take up the test and mock series to enhance the study process. Note the pattern between the boards and JEE Mains to avoid confusion. Divide the topics accordingly and keep yourself motivated and take power breaks.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
Manage your time well by:
- Creating short notes to have a quick revision so as to save time.
- Watching animation videos on the topics or the scholarly ones.
- Making an effective plan for studies along with regular intervals.
- Not sticking to your smartphones for each and every notification.
- Sticking to the topics that are easy for you.
- In Phase-I, performing all the easy questions in which you are confident and the ones that are not time-consuming.
- In Phase-II, taking up all the questions that are time-consuming.
- In Phase-III, opting for the most difficult questions which might take five minutes or even more than that.
Scoring topics include (Chapter/preparation strategy):
Easy topics for preparing Physics:
Current Electricity, Rotation, Semiconductors, Electrostatics, Units and Dimensions, Measurement of error, Alternating Current, Important topics for Physics, Fluid Mechanics, Gravitation, Magnetism, Heat Transfer, Law of Motion, Force, Kinematics, Work, Energy and Power, Rigid Body Dynamics, Radioactivity, Bohr’s Atomic Model, Centre of Mass and Collisions, Oscillation and Waves, Thermodynamics.
Important topics for Chemistry:
Chemical Bonding. IUPAC Nomenclature, Periodic Table, Hydrocarbons, Gaseous State, Hydrocarbons, Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Polymers, Isomerism, Metallurgy, Thermodynamics, Aldehydes, Ketones, Amines, Alkyl Halides and Aryl Halides, Colligative Properties, Nitrogen Compounds and Aliphatic Amines, Nuclear and Surface Chemistry, Redox and Volumetric analysis, Carboxylic Acids, Alcohol and Ether.
Important topics for Maths:
Trigonometry, Permutations and Combinations, Applications of Derivations, Integration, Matrices and Determinants, Limit and Continuity, Vector Algebra, Parabola, Statistics, Height and Distance, Differentiation, Differential Equation, Complex Numbers, Conic Sections, Properties of Triangle, Straight Line and Circle, Set and Relation, Binomial Theorem, Sequence and Series, Indefinite Integral
Create a revision approach:
- Go through the important exam topics before stepping into the battleground.
- According to the survey, the question paper is covered from the theory part so it is most important to prepare for the same.
- Go for numerical questions along with the formulae on fingertips and have a habit of calculating faster.
- Solve previous years’ question papers and give mock tests or solve exercise papers.
- Prepare a schedule with time management for each topic of every subject.
- Revise only important topics before a week of the exam and study the notes carefully.
Do these things in the last week:
- Have a sound sleep and try to sleep early before a week of JEE Mains exam.
- Also have a habit of taking regular intervals of a break, i.e. 10 minutes.
- Avoid studying late at night and for a long duration.
- Most important is to revise all the topics that are important from the exam point of view.
- Avoid starting a new topic before a week as it would demotivate you.
- Mock tests provide better help for the exams.
- Focus much on the notes and short tricks.
- Build confidence and positivity.
- Do exercise and yoga daily to keep your mind calm.
- Eat healthy.
- Avoid social media as much as you can.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?
- NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Cutoffs:
- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
