To prepare for JEE Main, one of the biggest entrance exams for the students planning to pursue engineering, a student must go through the basic concepts of all the topics from NCERT Text Books. Candidate should clear all the concepts in such a way that there is no need to emphasize on them again during JEE Advance preparation. All the concepts of Chemistry and Physics, which are generally asked in the exams, are briefly explained in NCERT textbooks. So one can prefer a help book to understand them clearly and then can easily understand NCERT’s briefs, and the candidate must go through the exercise of all the NCERT chapters as questions of all the topics are covered in them.

Here are certain things that you must do:
- In the last week, as there is no time to go through all the chapters again, candidates should select important topics in which they are facing difficulties and should prepare them well. If most of the topics have been covered completely then the candidate should take some mock tests, which are available both online as well as offline mode. These tests help in preparing for a real scenario.
- There are two types of time management:
- Time management during Preparation
- Time Management in Exam
During preparation, the time table should be managed in such a way that all the chapters of physics, chemistry and mathematics can be easily covered with atleast 2 hours to each subject.
For time management during the exam, candidates should take mock tests as they help in assessing and time management. A candidate should first solve the section for which his preparation is good and then move on to the weaker sections.
- Some of the topics in which you could score well in Physics include Radioactivity, Dual Nature of Matter, Photo Electric Effect, SHM, Doppler Effects, Oscillation and Waves, Thermodynamics. In Chemistry, they are Complete Organic, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Redox Reaction, Surface Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, MOT Dipoles, etc. In maths, focus on Sequence, Series, 3D-Geometry, Vector, Sets, Relations, Probability, Matrix, Determinants, etc.
- Preparation strategy for Physics and Chemistry is to go through NCERT Textbooks and for reference, a side book. Candidates must go through NCERT Exemplar and exercise it properly. For Maths, R D Sharma along with NCERT Exemplar is sufficient to touch all the topics in detail.
- For revision, the best way is to solve the practice papers and then figure out the topics which still need finishing.
- It’s not tough to manage both if you study in a systematic way from the start. If you are studying NCERT then automatically your topics of Physics and Chemistry will be covered and for maths, if you have studied R D Sharma then NCERT is a cakewalk. You must attend school to know how to write in the Board Exam, as you would require elaborating skills and writing skills to score good marks in 12th

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?
- NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Cutoffs:
- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
