UCEED Exam Pattern 2026 - The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay released the exam pattern of UCEED 2026 on its official portal. The exam pattern is outlined in the UCEED 2026 Information Brochure. 

As per the UCEED 2026 exam pattern, Part A will have 57 questions, and Part B will have 2 questions - one question will be drawing-based, while the other question will be aptitude-based. The test duration for Part A will be of 200 marks and 2 hours, and Part B will be of 100 marks and 1 hour. UCEED entrance exam wias conducted by IIT Bombay on January 18, 2026.

  1. IIT Bombay is likely to revise the exam pattern of UCEED 2026.
  2. The question paper now has two parts - Part A and Part B. Both parts are mandatory.

Q:   What types of questions will be asked in Section 1 of UCEED 2026 question paper?

UCEED 2026 question paper will have questions from Numerical Answer Type (NAT) in Section 1. There will be 18 questions of 4 marks each. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. Exam was on January 18, 2026.

Q:   What will be mode of Part A paper for UCEED 2026?
A: 

Part A paper of UCEED 2026 exam will be conducted in a computer based mode. So, candidate must know the basics of computer handling to take the exam. Note that advanced knowledge of software and hardware is not needed to take the paper. Note that in the scenario, there is a technical issue during the exam, the candidate may approach the invigilator for assistance. The invigilator will then take remedial steps to fix the problem. If the problem persists, the candidate will be assigned a different computer terminal.

UCEED 2026 Part A - Types of Questions and Marking Scheme  

The Part A UCEED question paper will include THREE types of questions.

  • Section 1: Numerical Answer Type (NAT): 14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks). For these questions, an answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.
  • Section 2: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) - 15 questions. Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme:
    • Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 3 If all four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct, and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Zero Marks: 0 If none of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered).
    • Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases.
  • Section 3: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) - 28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer.

UCEED Part B - Key Pointers

The candidate needs to note the following points about the sketching (or Part B) test:

  1. Part B will include TWO questions
  2. The questions will be displayed on the computer screen, but the answer has to be written/ drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator.
  3. Part B test will evaluate the drawing skills and design aptitude of the candidate. 
  4. Like Part A, Part B is also mandatory. This means that if the candidate doesn't attempt Part B, his or her results won't be declared.
  5. Note that for PwD candidates who are using the services of a scribe, no assistance in Part B is permitted. It is because the question seeks to evaluate the drawing skills of the candidate.
  6. The Part B answer booklets will be collected from the candidate at the end of the exam.

Candidate needs to remember following points about Part B question paper of UCEED 2026.

  • Part B will include TWO questions. Question for section will be shown on the computer monitor.

Only such candidates who belong to the PwD category are allowed to use the services of a scribe. The candidate can use scribe services only for Part A. However, using the services of a scribe is not allowed for Part B. It is because Part B of the question paper is used to evaluate the candidates drawing skill. The candidate can select their category (PwD in this case) at the time of filling out the UCEED 2026 application form. In case of candidates belonging to any other category than PwD, scribe services is not allowed.

Q:   Is there any changes to the UCEED 2026 exam pattern?

IIT Bombay had released a notification on its official website notifying that the UCEED exam starting in 2024 will be conducted following a revised syllabus. As per the revised syllabus, there has also been some changes to the UCEED exam pattern. For instance, the Part B question paper will now include two questions - 1) one question will be on Drawing and 2) the other question will be on Design Aptitude. Note that previously, Part B included a solitary, drawing-based question. Also, the time duration for Part B has been increased to 60 minutes from 30 minutes.

If you have biology as a subject in 10+2, then you can apply for B.Des programme at IIITDM Jabalpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore.

To apply at IIITDM, you need to have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology subjects in 10+2.

No, you cannot apply for B.Des programme at IIT Roorkee even if you have cleared the UCEED Entrance Exam because Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in 10+2. But you can apply for B.Des programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore.
