SRM Institute of Technology offers great academics, placements, and vibrant campus life.
Placements: In my college, especially in my branch, most students get internships in the 2nd or 3rd year, which is very helpful and adds to our experience. The average placement package is 7 to 8LPA annually, while the highest package in our branch is 52LPA, according to statistics. Overall, this is quite good for Mechatronics students, as most of them get placed in reputable companies, while a few choose to pursue higher education.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure, hostel rooms, mess, and canteens are wonderful. No complaints at all, they are truly top notch. Other facilities like Wi-Fi and a few additional services are also good, though there is still room for improvement in certain areas. Overall, I have not faced any major problems here, which makes it a really good college.
Faculty: SRM Institute of Technology, Chennai, teachers are generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, and the teaching quality is quite good, with most faculty being approachable for doubts. The course curriculum is updated regularly and designed to be industry relevant, especially with practical projects and internships, though some subjects could be made more application oriented. Semester exams are moderately difficult, testing both concepts and problem solving, but with consistent study, they are manageable. The pass percentage is usually high, as most students clear exams successfully. Overall, it prepares students well for placements and higher studies.
Other: I chose this course because Mechatronics offers a perfect blend of mechanical, electronics, and computer engineering, making it versatile and future oriented. The best part is the exposure to both hardware and software, along with good internship opportunities that help in building industry skills. The curriculum could be improved with more hands on projects and advanced labs. SRM has a vibrant campus with numerous events and fests, an energetic and diverse crowd, and great extracurricular opportunities. The campus is well connected, and scholarships are available, making the overall experience enriching and enjoyable.

In this university, you can choose your own career.
Placements: They have a weird practice of charging for placements, which I haven't heard of in many universities. SRM tries to bring forward many opportunities. However, you have to be fortunate to get placed in a core company, and everything is based on your skills. Otherwise, students have to settle for a sales job.
Infrastructure: Most of the infrastructure is good. Labs for computer science students are pretty good, and the rest are at a standard level. I recommend staying in the hostel for a maximum of two years as there are affordable options.
Faculty: Some of the courses offered are a bit outdated. They could implement more industry-standard practices to help students be job-ready. I suggest trying to talk to seniors and choose relevant faculty members during the faculty selection process. Exams are well-conducted.

A really good college for core engineering.
Placements: I'm still in the first year so placements haven't happened for us but our seniors had a great placement. As far as the percentage is concerned I think it was 100%. The average salary offered by the companies is around 4-5 LPA. The highest salary offered by some companies ranges from 25LPA to 35LPA. IT companies like TCS and Wipro visited. And many others I don't remember how many. Premium companies like Amazon, Fuji, etc. Also visited. As far as internships are concerned I have no idea at the moment.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is excellent. It has a 24/7 fully equipped library. It has smart classrooms with air conditioning. Has proper medical facilities. Moreover, it has a campuswide connection of Hi-speed Wi-Fi. The food available in the canteen is adequate, both North Indian and South Indian food available.
Faculty: The teachers here are mainly PhD qualified and helpful. As of any college, there are some faculty members who cannot explain very well. Visual, as well as a hands-on teaching method, is also used for a better understanding of the concept. My seniors have got enough industry exposure. The revised 2018 course is really well balanced and helpful.

Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?
A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.

Q:   Are there networking events and mentorship opportunities at SRMIST?
A:

SRM Institute of Science and Technology organises various events and partnerships for student growth. The university has partnered with various national and international institutions for an all-round approach to education. SRMIST partnerships include Tokyo University, University of Nevada, Free University of Berlin, Sankara Nethralaya, Banaras Hindu University, BITS Pilani Goa, among others.
