Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has released the GATE 2020 result on March 13. Candidates who have appeared in the exam can check their result on the official website. IIT Delhi has also released the GATE 2020 scorecard on March 19 and it will be available for download till March 31.

GATE 2020 Paper Analysis - Civil Engineering (CE)

Overall the questions asked in the exam were of Easy to Moderate level. The expected cutoff could be upto 30 marks.

  • The portion of numerical questions was more than the theoretical part.
  • The questions in the Aptitude section were of Moderate level.
  • Two marks questions were tougher than the one marks questions.
  • The question paper was a little lengthy because of the numerical questions.

GATE 2020 Paper Analysis - Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT)

According to the students who appeared in CSE paper, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate to difficult. The easy questions could be easily attempted. There were more numerical and geometrical questions. As compared to last year, the paper was difficult. However, the distribution of questions in GATE 2020 CSE paper was equal. 

As per the students who appeared in IT paper, the overall difficulty level was moderate to easy. As compared to last year, the questions were easy. Most of the questions were common to last year.  The questions were mainly asked from:

  • DBMS
  • Automata
  • Computer Network
  • General Aptitude
  • General Mathematics

GATE 2020 Paper Analysis - Electrical Engineering (EE)

Overall the level of Electrical Engineering question paper was Moderate to Tough. There were lesser direct questions and more conceptual questions. Candidates who attempted the GATE Electrical exam for the first time, it was a tough exam for them. The questions asked were required more and more practice to answer them. Gate expected cutoff for Electrical Engineering could be less than 30 marks. 

  • Synchronous machine related question was asked from Electrical Machine and the level was moderate.
  • The questions from Network were tough.
  • he questions from Control System were easy.
  • Questions of Maths were from easy to moderate.
  • The questions of Signal system were good and conceptual.
  • Two questions from MOSFET were asked.
  • Two questions from Diode, Op-Amp, Measurement were asked.
  • Analog circuit questions were tough.
  • The questions from Aptitude section were easy.
  • Questions from Power System were based on - PSA three, Protection, Transmission parameter, etc. Overall the questions were of moderate level.
  • In Power Electronics, the questions of overlapping angle, overlapping delay angle, duty cycle, etc. were asked.
  • From Single Phase, the questions of harmonics, chopper were asked.

GATE 2020 Paper Analysis - Mechanical Engineering (ME)

The level of the question paper was Moderate. The questions were more logical and conceptual compared to the previous year. The questions in the General Aptitude section were very easy and formula-based. It can be solved by putting the values directly into the formula.

  • Questions based on the Natural numbers were asked.
  • However, the questions of Mathematics were tougher than the previous year questions.
  • Questions from Design were conceptual and tricky. The questions from Refrigeration were tough.
  • Questions related to temperature calculation were asked from Heat Transfer.
  • Questions from Conduction, Convection, numericals from UDL & VDL.
  • Milling & Rolling questions, Matching questions were asked from Production and the questions were tough.
  • One question from Machine Drawing was asked.
  • In Production In English questions from basic grammar, sentence meaning, give suitable title to paragraph, sentence correction were asked.

GATE 2020 Exam Analysis - Instrumentation

  • Overall the level of the question paper was Moderate.
  • In Network Theory, three questions were aksed from 3 phase which were quite difficult, questions of Mesh Analysis were asked.
  • From AC Circuit, Resonance questions were asked. From Analog Electronics - questions of Diode and Op-Amp were asked.
  • From Signal & System - inverse fourier transform formula based question, questions related to Convolution, Sampling, Low pass filter were asked.
  • In Control System - questions of Nyquist plot, Polar plot to find value of K, graphical question to find the gain value, Steady state were asked.
  • Measurement - Questions from Maxwell AC bridge, Tolerance, Q-meter were asked. The level of the questions were moderate.
  • Sensor and Transducer - Questions from Optical, Strain Guage were asked and they were of tough level.
  • Digital - Questions from Counter based on the toggle flip-flop, MUX were asked.
  • Mathematics - Probability question was asked which was simple, One question from Linear Algebra to find unique solution, question to find Maximum value of function x2+y2.

The paper has 42 Multiple Choice Questions and 23 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.

  • Questions from Networks based on the Theorems, 2-Port Networks, AC Analysis & State Equations, where as in EDC majority of the questions are asked from MOSFET & Opto Electronics & Semiconductors.
  • The questions from Control Systems were from RH Criterion, Frequency Response Analysis & Time Response Analysis.
  • Majority of the Questions in Signals & Systems are from Discrete System Analysis.
  • The questions from Digital, Analog & Communications are from standard core topics.
  • Difficulty Level of Engineering Maths & Aptitude questions were between Easy to Moderate.

GATE 2020 Cutoff

GATE cutoffs are known as minimum marks that a candidate needs to score for taking admission to MTech, MSc, and PhD courses offered by the GATE participating institutes. After the GATE 2020 result are announced, the exam conducting authority will release the qualifying cutoffs for all the GATE papers.However, the GATE participating institutes will have their own admission cutoff. GATE score is also considered by many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for the recruitment of graduate engineers. Successful candidates will get the chance to participate in GATE 2020 counselling for which it is mandatory to exercise CCMT 2020 counselling registration.

The GATE exam is conducted once a year. The entrance test takes place on multiple dates and shifts for 30 test papers. For 2026, IIT Guwahati is conducting the exam on February 7, 8, 14, and 15.

No, a duplicate GATE 2026 admit card will not be provided at the test center. Candidates must carry their own admit card along with the mentioned documents and items to the GATE exam center. IIT Guwahati will release the GATE admit card on January 2.
