Expected Category-wise Rank Insights for JEE Main 2026

For engineering aspirants belonging to EWS OBC NCL SC or ST categories All India Rank is only half story. The category rank is what ultimately determines admission into reserved seats in NITs and IIITs. In 2026 we expect category ranks to follow a predictable ratio based on total number of applicants within each group.

For instance an AIR of 50000 might translate to an OBC category rank of approximately 12000–14000. Our predictor provides these specific insights allowing you to check if they meet previous years' closing ranks for your target category.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is cutoff in JEE Main? Why is it important?
A:

JEE Main cutoff is minimum percentile score required to qualify for JEE Advanced. Cutoff is important as candidates clearing the cutoff can appear for JEE Advanced for IIT admission.

Q:   Is 75 percent marks in class 12 required for JEE Mains?
A:

Candidates need not have 75 percent marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Main. As per the official brochure released by the NTA, there is no minimum percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main. The requirement of 75 percent marks need not be associated with appearing in the JEE Main exam.

It is to be understood that 75 percent marks is required for admission to institutes which include NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. Many institutes offer admission at 60% and even less, along with JEE Main. Candidates must clearly understand that the requirement of 75 percent marks in class 12 is only for taking admission in the institutes.

Q:   What is JEE Main cutoff for IIITs?
A:
The cutoff for IIITs vary for various branches and also category of students. Specialised branches like computer Science and electronics engineering has higher cutoff in comparison to other branches. Similarly, JEE Main cutoff for general category candidates is higher in comparison to OBC-NCL and SC/ST candidates. Candidates can check the JEE Main 2022 cutoff below for some top IIITs and branches. For detailed cutoff report, candidates can check Shiksha page. JEE Main Rank Predictor 2026 Tool

JEE Main 2026 Rank Predictor tool is built on a database which incorporates latest 2026 exam trends such as total number of students and session-wise difficulty levels.

Students must simply need to input expected percentile or marks to receive an estimated All India Rank to help engineering aspirants navigate high-stakes environment of engineering admissions by providing reliable benchmark for their performance.

How Accurate Is Rank Predictor of JEE Main 2026?

Although no third-party tool can guarantee 100% accuracy compared to official NTA results rank predictors are highly reliable. Their accuracy depends on volume of data they process; more student data more precise prediction offering accuracy of 90-95% by adjusting for normalization curves of different shifts.

Users are advised to treat result as a close approximation rather than an absolute finality as minor fluctuations occur every year based on final ratio of students to available seats.

Data Sources Used for JEE Main Rank Prediction

JEE Main Rank Predictor 2026 draws from variety of authoritative sources such as historical cutoff data from JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) and CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) from last five years.

It also incorporates real-time inputs from thousands of students who share their scores allowing algorithm to map current year's competition level. By combining official past trends with contemporary student performance metrics. The JEE Main 2026 rank predictor generates statistically sound estimate of where a student will rank in current cycle.

Factors That Affect Your JEE Main Rank

Several variables influence final AIR in JEE Main 2026. Primarily it is total number of unique engineering aspirants who appear across both sessions; as number of aspirants increases competition for top ranks tightens.

The difficulty level of specific shift compared to others also plays a role through NTA’s normalization process. Other factors include highest score achieved in session and overall performance of students in their category.

Understanding these variables helps in realizing why rank might differ even with similar marks across different years.

JEE Main Marks vs Percentile vs Rank (Expected for 2026)

For 2026 correlation between marks percentile and rank is expected to follow competitive curve. Generally a score above 280+ out of 300 might fetch a 99.9+ percentile translating to a rank under 1000.

A score around 150-160 might land a student in 97-98 percentile bracket resulting in a rank between 20000 and 30000. These figures are estimates based on 2026's projected registration numbers.

Also, as the quality of preparation among students improves annually, marks required for high percentile increases.

JEE Main 2026 Marks vs Precentile vs Rank (Expected)

JEE Main marks Expected percentile Expected ranks
240 - 280+ 99.9+ 1 - 1,200
210 - 240 99.5 - 99.9 1,200 - 6,000
180 - 210 99.0 - 99.5 6,000 - 12,000
160 - 180 98.0 - 99.0 12,000 - 25,000
140 - 160 97.0 - 98.0 25,000 - 35,000
120 - 140 95.0 - 97.0 35,000 - 60,000
100 - 120 90.0 - 95.0 60,000 Lakh - 1.1 Lakh
70 - 100 80.0 - 90.0 1.1 Lakh - 2.5 Lakh

Why Rank is Shown as a Range Not Exact Number?

Rank predictors present results as a range (1000-1500) rather than single digit because of "tie-breaking" rules and normalization process.

In JEE Main multiple students often score the exact same percentile. NTA resolves these ties using a specific hierarchy: Maths score followed by Physics then Chemistry and finally the age of the candidate or application number. Since a predictor tool cannot account for every individual's subject-wise breakdown or demographic data providing a range is the most honest and statistically accurate way to represent a candidate’s potential standing.

JEE Main Rank Trends in Previous Years

Analyzing rank trends from previous years to understand evolving competition. Over the last three years number of students seen a steady rise leading to "rank inflation" where higher marks are required to achieve the same rank as previous years. By reviewing how many engineering aspirants can better appreciate the volatility of the 2026 results.

JEE Main 2025 Rank Trend

In 2025 rank showed a significant jump in marks required to reach 99th percentile largely due to record number of registrations. For example 1.3 million registrations increased. Students found even with high raw scores dense competition in "moderate" difficulty shifts led to lower-than-expected percentiles.

JEE Main 2024 Rank Trend

The 2024 session was marked by a distinct variation between January and April attempts. Many students scored in 95th percentile in January found difficult to maintain rank in April as number of unique students grew and students improved their preparation.

JEE Main 2023 Rank Trend

2023 saw a return to a more stable exam cycle following the post-pandemic adjustments. The rank trends during this year showed that a score of approximately 180-190 was sufficient for a 99th percentile in most shifts.

Session-wise Rank Differences in JEE Main

JEE Main is conducted in two sessions and the final rank is based on best of two NTA scores. However dynamics of each session differ as January session often sees lower competition as many students are still finishing their board exam syllabus.

The April session usually sees a spike in performance as students have more time for revision and attempting the mock tests. The rank predictor of JEE Main 2026 accounts for these session-wise variations helping you understand which session likely contributed more significantly to your final All India Rank.
