JEE Main is the biggest common entrance exam for admissions to engineering colleges in India. Every year, more than 10 lakh students appear in this exam which is a gateway for admissions to the premier NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. Most of the government and private institutes also accept JEE Main scores for admissions to their engineering programmes. Given the magnitude of competition vis- a- vis JEE Mains, it is natural for aspirants to start searching for the most suited engineering college as soon as the exam gets over. JEE Main is conducted in the month of April and the results are declared by the end of the month.
To help students shortlist colleges basis their JEE Main score/rank, Shiksha has launched the JEE Main College Predictor Tool. The tool will assist students in selecting colleges and branches that they will be eligible for on the basis of their ranks in JEE Main. Besides this, the tool will also inform students about round-wise cut-offs/closing rank for admissions to the selected/preferred colleges in addition to offering insights about these colleges.

Shiksha’s JEE Main College Predictor Tool is multi-faceted and offers multiple features for students to explore. Follow these simple steps to use this convenient and student-friendly tool:
Step 1: Click on this JEE Main 2018 College Predictor Tool
Step 2: Enter your Rank/Merit Number and select your category. In case, you haven’t got your rank or predicted it, you can use Shiksha’s JEE Main Rank Predictor Tool.
There are four broad categories:
- General Category
- Other Backward Classes (OBC) only Non Creamy Layer candidates (whose family annual income is not greater than Rs 6 lakh)
- Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)
Persons with Disability (PwD) is a sub-category under each of the above categories as well. So this takes the total number of categories available to eight:
- General
- General – PwD( Persons with Disability)
- SC(Scheduled Caste)
- SC - PwD( Persons with Disability)
- ST (Scheduled Tribes)
- ST - PwD( Persons with Disability)
- OBC (Other Backward Classes)
- OBC - PwD( Persons with Disability)
Besides these eight categories, some colleges also accept students that come under the OBC Minority quota. While applying to any institute, please check for a specific category that might hold good for that college.
Step 3: Now select your State Quota Eligibility. You would have two options two choose from: All India (AI) Quota and Home State (HS) Quota.
The AI quota can be availed by each and every eligible candidates. While under the HS quote, seats are reserved for students on the basis of their eligibility which is basically the state where they have completed their Class 11th and 12th from. Please note that your home state quota is filled as per as your All India Rank. Almost 50% seats are reserved for HS quota students.
Step 4: Select your preferred colleges. This is an optional step which you may or may not skip.
Step 5: After filling in the above details, hit the ‘Show Results’ button to view the list of colleges you would be eligible on the basis of your JEE Main 2018 rank. On desktop, the ‘Load More’ button will expand the list of matched colleges. On mobile, just scroll downwards and the data will auto-load.
As part of results, the student is provided with information about college, branch name, location, admission round and closing rank. Apart from this, the candidate can also download college brochures.
Another interesting feature of this tool is college comparison which helps students compare two or more colleges on the basis of College Rankings, Alumni Placement Data, Exam required & Cutoffs, Course fee Affiliation & more. In case, you are unable to decide between two or more colleges (in which you are eligible for admission), you must use this feature to take a decision.
To compare colleges, candidates will first have to hit the ‘Add to Compare’ box mentioned below the name of each college. One can compare maximum of four colleges at one time. After selecting colleges for comparison, click on the ‘Compare’ button.

JEE Main exam is not mandatory for admission in Prestige University BTech courses. Students can apply with a valid score of other entrance exams as well. The other accepted exams are CUET/ SAT/ ACT and PU Aptitude Test.

Yes, SRM do accepts JEE Main score for admission to a few programs at certain campuses. As per the details available in the official website - "Any Candidate qualified in IIT JEE Main/SAT will be admitted directly even if the candidate doesn't take SRMJEEE."

Yes, UV Patel College of Engineering accepts JEE Main marks for taking admission in the BE/BTech courses. The college also accepts score from GUJCET exam for BTech admissions. Candidates have to undergo counselling and fill the application form of college.
