With proper Time Management techniques and better revision plan, I was able to work out the exams well enough, says Ritika Pandey.
Well, everyone knows it is hard to crack the exams of JEE Mains without dedication and hard work. My story is somewhat the same. Watching out for my ISC board exams while preparing for JEE Mains exam at the same time was not easy at all. Also, it has been a hard shell to crack for me because of my weakness in Maths and the problems in certain aspects. However, having proper Time Management techniques and better revision plan, I was able to work out the exams well enough. Yet, due to general category’s high cut-off weightage, I could not pass the JEE Mains.
- Correct Study Material(Books/Notes)
If a student has the correct study material with him/her along with the explanations and solutions mentioned according to the student’s understanding, every exam can possibly be cracked. In my case, even when I was from the ISC Board, I somewhere got to know that NCERT is a better source of knowledge to crack the JEE Mains exam. If you master the NCERT, you surely will be able to get through the toughest exams. Well, of course mastering the NCERT also needs hard work and lots of dedication. I took the last months’ time just to revise the NCERT twice or thrice to get to the edge of every question.

- Examination Structure and Focus points (Highest Scoring topics /Topic wise Weightage & Preparation)
JEE Mains exam curates its question paper with 20 Objective questions involving 4 options each where 1 correct option is the possibility. Further, there are 5 Numerical questions with some numerical value as the correct answer. For Multiple Choice Questions, the paper provides 4 marks for every correct answer with a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. Also, for numeric value answers, the exam awards 4 marks for correct answer with no negative marking.
- Study Plan and Self-evaluation (Mock papers/Sample papers)
Preparing for the JEE Mains in the last month can be tough but not impossible. Well, like I always say, Time Management is the key to every lock. I use it to unlock the difficulties of any exam. I went with proper and effective planning throughout the year because I knew last months will bring a hustle in my life with both the boards preparations and the JEE Main. Thus, I distributed the study structure for every month and just left the revision plan for the last month to balance all the situations approaching me. Revision, in the end, is a very important asset.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
