If the JEE Mains 2020 aspirants are not able to get a high score, they still have several chances to get admission in reputed colleges just by giving the entrance exam of a particular college or by appearing for the Common Entrance Test (CET), if wishing to get admission in a government college of a particular state.
For the students who are attracted to the engineering field, one of the most buzzed words is JEE Mains. Students who want to seek their careers in engineering have to crack JEE Mains 2020 so that they can get admission to a reputed college. But, there arises a situation for almost 90 percent of the total students, which is scoring lower than their expectations. Whether to take a drop or to continue with the result is what comes to every student’s mind. The answer to this question always baffles a student. One can take a year drop if they are confident that they can improve their weak areas and can get a better score by devoting enough time with enough practice. Also, one should be well aware about all the consequences, the situations forthcoming and handle the behavioural change. But, if the student is not sure enough that he/she can crack the exam and get a higher score then it’s not a good choice to take a year drop.

You could also be a part of the counselling sessions after giving JEE Mains. Many students who are not able to get a high score remain in doubt whether to take a year drop or to move on with the result. Counselling provides the students with all the alternative options and with the career ahead of it. It provides students in the right direction so that no doubt remains in their minds. Therefore, it is a better option if one waits for the subsequent counselling sessions.
You also have another chance at JEE Mains in May. Since 2018, students have been given relaxation and a stress-free environment by introducing a second session of the exam. As it was a time not so long ago when students could appear for the JEE Mains only once in a year. But from 2018 onwards, students can appear for JEE Mains twice a year. JEE Mains will now be conducted in January as well as in May so that if any student remains unsuccessful in the first attempt, i.e. in January, then he/she can give the exam for the second time, i.e. in May. The best of the two scores shall be considered and this way, they can improve and get a good score.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
