If you have the talent, you can achieve anything from being anywhere, in any engineering college.
JEE Main is like a race that comprises of several runners, some complete the race, some win, some lose and then there are some who stop midway. Losing the race is alright but not taking part in the race and thinking that you are a loser definitely makes you a loser.
Starting from 2019, JEE has applied a new policy of conducting the Main examination two times -- one will be conducted in January and another in May, so it's a great opportunity for the upcoming JEE aspirants to improve their performance and score better marks if they can't perform in the first examination due to some reasons and try to give your best in both the papers. Take pride in the fact that you did not leave the race in middle and of course try to seat in both the examination whether your course is completed or not, at least you may get an idea that how the paper comes, what are you’re left out topics and how much more efforts you have to put to score better in the next examination that would be held in the month of May and after that wait for the counselling.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
Counselling mainly comprises of several rounds and your number comes according to the rank that you hold in the examination. Many of the shortlisted students take seats in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and some to take a decision of dropping out and preparing for JEE Mains paper one more time, so wait till the last counselling round. Maybe you can get the seat and if unluckily can't get a chance to get a seat in IIT or NIT don't worry there are much more colleges and institutes that may help you in sharpening your knowledge.
If you have the talent, you can achieve anything from being anywhere, in any engineering college. There are many other famous colleges such as Ramaiah Institute of Technology Bangalore, JECRC Jaipur, Jadavpur University Kolkata and many more from where you can pursue your bachelor’s degree and at the end of the day knowledge matters college just give you degree but knowledge gives you the idea that how to use that degree and the knowledge that you gain in past 4 years of your college life.
Moving towards the droppers, so everyone has a different opinion about the dropping students. In my opinion, if you have given your 100 per cent and then also you want to drop for one year then frankly saying it's of no use, being a dropper for one year and studying the same topics and sitting for the same exam for one more time need a lot of courage that barely every student can bear. So, I would suggest you complete the race by giving your 100 per cent so that you don't have to regret at the last that you can do much better from now you have done.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?
- NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Cutoffs:
- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
