As you might know, syllabus is almost the same for JEE Mains and 12th boards and for getting an IIT or NIT, you have to score at least 75 percent in your 12th boards. First, try to score good marks in 12th boards. Moving towards JEE Mains subjects, chemistry is one of the most scoring subjects of JEE paper.
Lakhs of candidates apply for JEE Mains but only few of them get the golden wings to fly through the gates of the famous IITs and NITs. Being an engineering student and of course, being an ex-JEE aspirant, I know the mistakes that we made during our preparation time, hence I think that I am capable enough to provide a few tips and tricks to my fellow aspirants about this exam. JEE Mains exam comes along with the Class 12th exams, so there is much more stress for the students.

First, try to score good marks in 12th boards. Moving towards JEE Mains subjects, chemistry is one of the most scoring subjects of JEE paper. Chemistry is the subject full of exceptions and molecular formulas, therefore if you know the concepts, you can solve the chemistry section quickly. Some of the important chapters of chemistry are nomenclature, S, P, D and F blocks, Electrochemistry, Chemical Equilibrium and the important name reactions.
Mathematics is the subject that needs practice and presence of mind. It is a subject full of twists and turns and somewhat, formulas. Some of the important and scoring topics are calculus, probability, and area under the curve, matrices and determinants, vector, etc. These are the scoring as well as interesting chapters in maths.
Physics is full of real-life applications and an extreme level of thinking. Some of the important chapters are Current Electricity, Modern Physics, COM, RBD and Motions. These are lenient and the most scoring chapters of JEE Mains that you can easily cover.
December to April are the most crucial months for JEE aspirants as these are the months that decide your position in the race. So, try to practice maths and physics daily for at least three hours and try to boost up your speed of solving problems. Try to solve as many questions as you can in a day and for chemistry, you must read the important reactions and exceptions and go through them every day. Books that I would recommend are HC Verma for physics, RD Sharma and SL Arora for maths, and NCERT for chemistry.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?
- NITs/IIITs/GFTIs Cutoffs:
- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
