Joint Entrance Exam or JEE Mains is considered as one of the most coveted engineering entrance exams in the country. To be conducted from January 6-9, JEE Mains 2020 is just around the corner and students are not leaving any stone unturned to give their best shots. For those who are aiming to score more than 300 marks in the exam, these tips can come in handy.
Correct study material
Think of JEE Mains preparation as a developing structure for JEE Advance. We have to start from the base level, then need to build columns and later on, we have to set up the stage for further action. It is actually the hard work along with smartness that can make you score 300+. The first step would be to have the right direction and arrangement of proper books/study material. You should listen to each and every instruction given in your class very carefully. After this, what you need to prepare will matter the most. Also, it is very important that you attend classes daily with complete focus and attention. Further, for scoring higher marks, one should not take class notes lightly as they will be very useful during the final preparation. You should also replicate your personal notes with the summarized notes taken during your classes. Then finally comes the revision of the complete syllabus.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
The subjects we need to focus on are as follows:
Chemistry: First, read NCERT books. One can follow books written by OP Tandon and Himanshu Pandey. You can also consult JD Lee books for advanced studies.
- NCERT
- Natural Chemistry-O. P Tandon
- Inorganic Chemistry-J. D Lee
- Physical Chemistry-R.C Mukherjee
For Physics: One should study from P Bahadur along with NCERT. First, start with the authoritative manual for Physics HC Verma and then follow DC Pandey after you finish a section in HCV. Target topics should be mechanics, optics, electricity and attraction and so on. Further, we can also consult IRODOV. The reality about physics is that its planning doesn't end with 3 books, you need an introduction of a wide assortment of entireties.
- NCERT
- H. C VERMA for JEE Physics
- DC PANDEY for class eleventh and twelfth Physics
- Pradeep's essential for Physics
Mathematics: I would recommend NCERT for this subject. We should also solve from Cengage TMH. Problems will always be hard, nonetheless, build up the best approach to solve better without interruptions. We should comprehend everything line by line from NCERT.
- R. D Sharma
- Arihant for Algebra and Differential Calculus
- SL Loney for Trigonometry
- ML Khanna for IIT Mathematics
- IA Marron for fundamental ideas
Have a Self-Evaluation
Giving Tests is basic as it causes the understudies to survey their degree of planning and it’s very supportive to assess their exhibitions and urging them to improve in the tests. These tests help you in overhauling the entire schedule with the vibe of a genuine test. Give JEE Mock Tests in routine and continue assessing your situation at each stage. Chalk out the arrangement to conquer the powerless zones.
Have an inspirational outlook continuously, you have to turn into an idealistic individual to break any test in this world. An inspirational mentality helps to hold more and you will then have the option to score well in the tests. Finally, I would encourage you to stamp the significant date of the test, with the goal of designing your examination in your own way.

Students who gave the JEE Main session 2 exam and want to take admission at IITs should start preparing for the JEE Advanced exam. Students with a more than 98th percentile should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Those who have secured a percentile between 95th and 98th should focus more on

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

- Even for lower-demand branches (Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgy), closing ranks are usually within 2–2.5 Lacs (General category).

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
