The students, who have scored less in JEE Mains January edition, have a chance to attempt the next exam to be held in April. It would be better to go for the next exam if you are mentally prepared. I have seen many students, who had the second chance, but they took some college with lower marks and got a lower branch and now they are suffering.
If you are getting your desired course at the desired college then you should go for it because you will do better. Before taking any course or college, you should have prior knowledge about it. It would be better to choose a college or course in which you are interested.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
If you have a chance and are opting for the next attempt, work on the errors you made in the previous attempt. Try to solve previous years’ papers and try to learn the concepts on which they are based, and prepare for the next exam.
If you don't have a chance and have fewer marks than your expectations, you will have to opt for a college. In such a situation, begin with making a list of courses with college names according to your preference and put them in decreasing order. Try to take a course at a top-ranked college. It would be better to take admission to either a lower branch of a top-ranked college or take a top branch in a lower-ranked college. But don't go for a lower branch in a lower-ranked college. While going for the counselling, fill your choices according to the list you prepared earlier. Make a 'float' option while reporting to the college and wait till the last round. If you get your desired branch and the desired college in the subsequent rounds then you should select that. While filling the options during counselling, do it very carefully because later you would not be able to change your choices. If you do not get a better college or branch after the end of the final round of counselling then you should participate in spot round counselling. There you may get a better seat.
If you do not get good marks in the December exam, you should try to give the May exam. There you might score better.
