Who can appear for the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam?
Candidates who have completed their VITEEE slot booking and downloaded their admit card of VITEEE are eligible to appear for the exam. Carrying hall ticket to test centre is mandatory. Students must note that the hall ticket will be issued only to those who have booked their slot at VIT OTBS portal.

What to carry at the VITEEE Exam Centre?
At the exam centre, candidates must carry the following documents -
- VITEEE admit card printount
- Valid photo ID proof (Aadhar card/PAN card/Voter ID/Driving License/Passport) with photograph/Class XII board admit card with photograph
- Pen or pencil for rough work
It is advised that students must report to exam centre on allotted day and date only. They must reach their centre at least one to two hours before to complete frisking process. Students appearing VITEEE 2026, will have to undergo biometric verification process, as the part of attendance and hall ticket verification process. The checking is done before and during the exam.
Applicants who do not cooperate in the biometric verification will not be allowed to appear for the entrance examination.
- A biometric authentication process will also be carried out for the shortlisted candidates during admission.
VITEEE 2026 slot booking is expected to start in second week of April 2026. Official link for slot booking will be available at official website. Students who complete their registration for exam will have to log in and book their preferred slots.
Admission to the VIT Vellore B.Tech course is based on the VITEEE score. VIT Engineering Entrance Exam is a computer-based test conducted for a duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. The VITEEE question paper consists of 125 questions. The questions will be based on Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude. The shortlisted aspirants are called for counselling and document verification. Aspirants need to pay a course fee to confirm their seat in the institute.

Once the verification and authentication process is completed, students will be allowed inside the VITEEE hall to attempt the test. The invigilator will mention the VITEEE exam hall instructions to students before the start of the exam.
- Candidates must sit in the allotted seat, which is pre-allotted.
- Applicants will be monitored through CCTV camera individually.
- They are not allowed to carry any other items or documents apart from hall ticket and ID proof.
- Students must not sit idle for more than 20 minutes, as they will be closely monitored by the VIT observer.
- A rough sheet will be provided in the exam hall for doing calculations.
- Scribe applicants will get a compensatory time of 30 minutes to complete the VIT entrance exam.
- Candidates have to maintain discipline inside the exam hall.
- Also, students will not be allowed to leave the VITEEE exam centre before the completion of exam time.
VITEEE Computer-Based Test: Feature and How to Attempt
Each computer is connected to a central server that provides encrypted test in real time. The question paper will be English in MCQ format and will appear one by one randomly. The number of exam days will be based on the number of applicants submitted their VITEEE application form 2026.
In addition, this year VIT has introduced negative marking in exam. Therefore, students must be careful while attempting questions. Only mark those that you are confident of. Strategise techniques on how to avoid negative marking in VITEEE.
The institute conducts VITEEE for BTech admission, VITMEE for M.Tech admissions and VITREE for PhD admission. The institute accepts national-level entrance exams like CAT, XAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT, ATMA, etc., for MBA course. However, admission to a few other courses, including BSc, BSc (Hons), BCA, BCom, MSc, MCA, among others, is based on the aggregate obtained by the candidates in previous qualifying degree/ exam (merit-based). After passing the entrance exam, aspirants are called further rounds of selection. Shortlisted aspirants need to come for counselling and document verification round.
If the students are not able to book their VITEEE slots, then they will be automatically allotted. These students will be given exam slots from the available ones. They will not be allowed request for change of centres. Therefore, the students should immediately complete the slot booking process.
VITEEE seat allotment is a process where students will be offered course and college based on their rank/scores secured in the entrance test. The counselling and seat allotment will be done in 5 rounds and is common for all VIT campuses. Students will have to fill in their preferences and wait for the allotment result. Based on VITEEE seat matrix, rank, and choices submitted, VIT will announce seat allotment result.

The Vellore Institute of Technology maintains strict guidelines inside the exam hall, which can be checked below -
- Malpractice is not allowed inside the exam hall
- Any kind of stationary items, electronic gadgets, or food items are strictly prohibited.
- Candidates cannot write someone else’s exam
- Writing questions and answers on the rough sheet or hall ticket is not allowed.
- Once exam is over, students will have to return rough sheet to examiner.
