If you have done with your MBA exam, it is time for you to prepare for Group Discussin (GD) / Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). Most IIMs and top B-Schools admit aspirants on the basis of score in written exam, GD, WAT and PI.
WAT is basically an essay-writing test that assesses your analytical and logical skills. In WAT, one has to express creativity and solution for the subject. The aspirant is expected to write an essay on the provided subject in a certain period of time. The time frame for WAT may vary from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

Shiksha.com spoke to Rahul Chauhan, a GD / PI / WAT expert, to share few tips to perform well in WAT. Here’s what Rahul had to say about WAT:
Written Ability Test is the new step added in the admission process for MBA/PGDM in colleges and universities. It involves writing an essay within the time frame of 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes. The student is expected to write as much as possible on any topic quickly. This means that you do not get much time to think, present your ideas and write it down without any grammar mistakes.
1. The only way to improve your writing skills is daily practice. Make it a habit to write a page daily on any topic or idea or express your opinion on any current topic.
2. To improve your writing skills, read a lot. Read fiction books, magazines, newspapers, editorials, blogs etc.
3. Improve your grammar. Refer to basic and good books on English Grammar and Comprehension. You can also refer to dictionaries for to see the meanings and interpret accordingly.
4. Initially you might make lot of mistakes. However, with continuous practice, things will improve.
5. Keep the language very simple and form short sentences.
6. Do not use strong and difficult words.
7. Avoid becoming preachy in your content.
8. The panel checks your ability to think new ideas and analysis from different parameters any particular topic. So, innovation is crucial.
