Our college has an excellent academic curriculum but no good infrastructure.
Placements: The percentage of students who got placed in the mainstream branch of their degree was very low since most students in this course pursued higher education. The salary offered was in the range of anywhere from Rs.45,000 per month to Rs.25,000 per month. The salary would vary if students from this batch search for and get placed in other fields of engineering. The job roles offered could be those of a lab technician, junior research fellow, or be appointed as engineers in various food and biotechnology industries. Almost 25% of students were placed and got internships.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the biotechnology labs was not good and sufficient equipment for experiments was not available to students. Classrooms were huge and Wi-Fi browsing speed was average. Hostel facilities were average. The food was hygienic. Sports and games facilities were pretty good. The hostel premises had shops for basic amenities and the campus was safe.
Faculty: The course curriculum was very good. It covered almost all the mainstream subjects of the entire course and had 4 electives that you could choose according to your interests. Faculty members were supportive and encouraging. Overall, the teaching quality was average. The course curriculum gave you a comprehensive knowledge of genetics and its advances. They had sessions of invited talks that provided students with insights into their prospects from this course.
Other: The academic curriculum was well designed. However, I would strongly emphasise the betterment of the infrastructure so that students could gain the most from this course.

Review of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai.
Placements: Almost 7-10% of students received placements in biotech start-ups. The average salary package offered was 4 LPA. Roles offered were research associate and junior scientist. Most students in genetic engineering pursued master's and received admissions from all around the world in various streams.
Infrastructure: In this college, facilities like air-conditioners, Wi-Fi, laboratories, a library, restrooms, and elevators were available. The bio-engineering building had its stairs shaped as a single-helix DNA which was fascinating to many. Laboratories were good. In the M block hostel, air-conditioner and non-air-conditioner rooms were available. The mess food was great and rooms were spacious. Several outdoor and indoor games courts were provided. Shuttle bus service was available on campus and several canteens provided food items at affordable prices. Subway was also available. Our campus was green.
Faculty: Our course curriculum was relevant as it covered all prerequisites for applying for master's degrees in colleges abroad. The laboratory exposure helped students to acquaint themselves with techniques. Teachers were knowledgeable and delivered the material to the best of their ability. The pass percentage was 50%. Exam questions were direct.
Other: I was looking for a genetics course that could make me industry-ready and keep my option to go abroad open. Several programs like rare disease day, SAPiens day, teachers day, etc., were conducted. Two main fests are held every year, Aaruush, the techno-management fest, and Milan, the cultural fest. Extracurricular and co-curricular activities like MUNs, conferences and inter-college completions were held. Scholarships were provided for meritorious students.

SRM Genetic Engineering: A department you should be in!
Placements: Placements from good companies such as Biocon and Cipla are conducted, however, the skill set which gets more attention are IT and bioinformatics. Students who aren't interested in placements can apply to go for the semester abroad programme, popularly known as SAP. The department of genetic engineering has the highest number of students going abroad for SAP. Though it's a bit expensive, it would be worth going to reputed foreign universities and trying for higher studies and jobs there.
Infrastructure: I could say that the facilities are the best you can get around town. Be it education or amenities, it's maintained to their best (unless students mess it up!). There is free Wi-Fi available at the college and hostel, the hostel mess provides breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner both in North Indian and South Indian cuisine, and occasionally in Chinese. There are common playgrounds, stationery shops, and eateries on the campus which would serve most of the purposes. Things are available outside the campus too within walkable distances.
Faculty: The best I could say about the course is the faculty. The department of genetic engineering is the only department (until my graduation, not sure now) with all the faculty members with a doctorate degree. They are well-experienced with foreign exposures and are very supportive if they find a spark in you. You could join their labs as trainees and help them, publish papers with them, and so on. In short, they know what they're doing! The curriculum is great. Though the theory deals with more arbitrary knowledge, application and practical knowledge are best provided by the laboratories, which doesn't limit us from exploring. The labs here will surely be a foundation for students who are interested in industries and/or research. The syllabus has been revised recently and I've heard that it had updated many good additions to the system. About the exams. The questions are average and above. It can be written easily if learnt thoroughly. Though the valuation is strict, you'll get what your paper deserves. The pass percentage is 50%.

I'm very satisfied with SRM because of the facilities available and the faculty members.
Placements: All students who appeared for placement got it. An average of 6 figure was provided to students. Many of my classmates got placed in core branches. Also many promising companies including the big four came for placement. Apart from these, companies like Google, Facebook etc. came.
Infrastructure: For my course laboratory was the most facility that we needed and that was phenomenal. SEM, TEM, Raman along with cell sorter type expensive instruments are available. As for the hostel there was a combination of attached washroom hostel and common washroom. Mess food was okayish.
Faculty: I had a series of faculty members who actually helped me in growing my interest deeper into the subjects and development a pin point view along with a wide exposure of the subject. Experimenting constantly with what studying was what almost motivated me in SRMIST.

I am satisfied with the course. The college can improve lab facilities.
Placements: Placements in our college are good for other departments. But our department doesn't have companies coming for placements. Our department though offers student exchange programmes which are very useful in higher studies. It also helps us to gain research faculty positions in foreign universities.
Infrastructure: The hostel is well maintained, and the library is also clean and well organised. Classrooms are spacious and have a good Wi-Fi connection. Food served in the mess is tasty and good. Our college has good medical facilities. College doesn't encourage everyone in the sports field.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college are well educated and helpful. The course curriculum is good and relevant. The exchange programme allows students to work in a well-equipped lab outside the country for 6 months. This gives us more exposure.
