Do's & Don'ts for JEE Mains 2026: What to Carry, What to Avoid and Other Instructions

Dos and Don'ts for JEE Mains 2026: NTA has laid down certain dos and don'ts for JEE Main 2026. These guidelines will help students know what to carry, what to avoid, what the reporting timings are and more. Students can also find the JEE Main 2026 dos and don'ts inside the exam hall. Any student who does not follow the guidelines will be disqualified from the exam. The JEE Mains dos and don'ts 2026 help students prepare for the D-Day, as the real test does not start inside the hall but in the journey of making it to the hall.

NTA conducted JEE Main 2026 for Paper 1 on April 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8, and for Paper 2 on April 7. The exam was held in two shifts. Candidates must check the dos and don'ts for JEE Mains to ensure a smooth entry process.

Things to Carry on JEE Main 2026 Exam Day (Do’s)

Before leaving for the exam, candidates must ensure that they carry all mandatory items as prescribed by NTA. Failing to carry the mandatory documents may lead to denial of entry. The list of documents is provided below.

  • JEE Main 2026 Admit Card - Carry a clear printout of the admit card of JEE Main 2026. Students must ensure that all the details are visible. The admit card also mentions important instructions that must be followed strictly.
  • Valid Photo Identity Proof - A government-approved photo ID, such as Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, PAN Card or Driving Licence, has to be carried for verification.
  • Passport-size Photograph - Students must carry at least two passport-size photographs, preferably the ones uploaded in the application form.
  • Photo verification certificate - Only for those candidates who have received an email from NTA.

Q:   How many times JEE Main is conducted in a year?
A: 

National Testing Agency generally conducts the JEE Main exam two times in a year. The first attempt is conducted in January and the second attempt in April. JEE Main 2026 exam dates have been announced by the NTA for both sessions. The first attempt of JEE Main 2026 will be conducted from January 21 to 30 while the second attempt will be conducted from April 2 to 9. Only in the year 2022, NTA conducted JEE Mains in four sessions due to COVID-19. The number of sessions and date for any year is announced by the NTA at the time of release of application form.

Q:   Where can I find important study materials for JEE Mains preparation?

Students can check details about JEE Main important chapter and topics from this page. While it is necessary that students pay special attention to chapters with high weightage, it is highly advised that they cover the full JEE Mains syllabus. The question paper of JEE Main is prepared by considering the entire JEE syllabus which consists of topics from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics from class 11 and 12. Important study material for JEE Main like books or short notes can be checked online. Students who are taking coaching can get the study materials from the coaching institutes.
Q:   In how many languages JEE Main exam is conducted?

National Testing Agency conducts JEE Main exam in a total of 13 languages. The languages in which paper is conducted are Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu in addition to Hindi English and Gujarati. Students can select the language of their choice from the available options while filling the application form. The language of JEE Main question paper during the exam will be available in 3 languages- English Hindi and the language selected by the candidates. The language of paper can be switched among these 3 languages during the exam.

Q:   How is JEE Main conducted, online or offline?

JEE Main exam is conducted in online mode as a computer based test. This is conducted in 3 different courses. The exam for B.Tech and B. Plan is completely online while the exam for B.Arch is partially online and drawing part is conducted offline.

What Not to Carry to the JEE Main 2026 Exam Centre (Don’ts)

Only a limited number of items are allowed inside the exam hall. Carrying restricted items can lead to disqualification or cancellation of candidature. Students can check the list of items not be carried inside the exam hall below.

  • Electronic Devices - Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, Bluetooth devices, earphones, or any electronic gadgets.
  • Study Material or Written Notes - Any form of paper, notes, etc is not allowed.
  • Accessories and Jewellery - Candidates should avoid wearing rings, bracelets, chains, underwired bras, or metal accessories, as they will create issues during security checks.

JEE Main Exam Timing: Shift-wise

NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 exam in two sessions. Candidates will be allotted a specific date, time and exam centre which can be checked from their JEE Main admit card. The following table provides the shift-wise JEE Mains exam timings to be followed while appearing for the exam.

Q:   Will there be any break in JEE Main 2026 exam?

JEE Main exam is held for 3 hours continuously without any break. Candidates are allowed to leave exam hall only after 3 hours of the test are over.

Q:   Are calculators allowed inside exam centre in JEE Main exam?

Students are not allowed to carry calculators inside the exam centre in JEE Main exam. Students can use the virtual calculator available on the screen during the exam. Virtual calculators will be available on the computer screen of students during the JEE Main exam.

Q:   In how many shifts JEE Main exam is conducted?
A: 

JEE Main exam is in two shifts each day. First shift is from 9 am to 12 noon and second shift is from 3 pm to 5 pm. Exam is conducted over a period of 5-6 days. In total JEE Main has 10-12 shifts per session. Each session has different question paper set. The exam is for 3 hours.

Q:   I am a PwD candidate. Do I need to carry the PwD certificate to the JEE Main exam centre?

Yes, you must carry your original PwD certificate (or UDID card) to the JEE Main exam centre to avail of relaxation or scribe services.

Mistakes to Avoid on JEE Main 2026 Exam Day (Don’ts)

  • Do not reach the exam centre late.
  • Do not visit any other centre than the one allotted to you.
  • Do not carry any prohibited items to the JEE Main exam centre.
  • Do not disrupt the decorum of the exam hall.

Candidates wishing to take admission in BTech at Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management have to appear in JEE Main, JEE Advanced, CUET-UG, SAT, KCET, COMEDK. So, yes even if you have not appeared in JEE, you can produce score card of any of the above mentioned exams.

The East Point Group of Institutions accepts many exams for the BE course. The accepted exams are JEE Main, COMEDK, and KCET. Students can appear in any of these exams to get admission at EPGI. Students need to fulfil the eligibility criteria as well.
