Q. First of all, congratulations on your result. What was your reaction when you saw your scores?

Q. Since when have you started preparing for JEE Main?
Guramrit Singh: I have started preparing for the JEE Main exam from Class 10. I have tried to be regular in my studies. I have tried not to deviate from my goal that leads to a good final result.
Q. What was your preparation strategy for getting good marks in JEE Main?
Guramrit Singh: As far as JEE Main is concerned, I have followed NCERT to have a better understanding of concepts. I solved a good number of past year papers of JEE Main and identified the topics with higher weightage or the ones that needed more extensive preparation. Past years’ JEE Main question papers were sufficient to focus on minimising mistakes by analysing the mistakes and if better conceptual clarity is required.
Q. Who has been the driving force behind your success in JEE Main?
Guramrit Singh: Teachers in the coaching motivated me a lot to perform better in the exam. In case, I got less scores in any of the mock tests, they helped me to understand the weak areas and guided me to overcome them. They also suggested us take breaks of at least one day if I have studied for quite a long time such as two weeks or more.
Q. Describe your daily routine while preparing for JEE Main.
Guramrit Singh: My daily routine looked something like this:
- Classes in the morning
- 7 hours study time after that. In this time, I used to complete my homework, assignments and revise the chapters taught earlier in the day
- 2 hours outdoor activity like football, cricket
Q. What is your preparation strategy for JEE Advanced?
Guramrit Singh: For JEE Advanced, I am practising application-based or conceptual questions as the exam comprises such types of questions. I am also practising a good number of previous year question papers and taking the mock tests to have an idea of the JEE Advanced.
Q. What are your future goals? Which college and course do you wish to pursue in future?
Guramrit Singh: I am very fond of computer programming. My first choice for the college is IIT Bombay and the course is Computer Science Engineering. I will make a final decision after JEE Advanced 2021 results.
Q. What would you like to say to students who are currently preparing for JEE Main?
Guramrit Singh: JEE Main aspirants must be regular in their studies and complete all the assignments or homework that day only. All students must follow their teachers’ suggestions religiously.

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III

With a 70 percentile in JEE Main (General category) and being from Andhra Pradesh (AP), here's a clear picture of your admission chances:
What 70 Percentile Means
- Approximate rank: 3,00,000 – 4,50,000.
- NITs/IIITs via JoSAA: Not possible, since even the lowest cutoffs for Civil/Mechanical in newer NITs
