Medical certificate for JoSAA 2026: All candidates who are appearing for JoSAA counselling must get a medical certificate filled by a Registered Medical Practitioner. Students who get a seat in any round of JoSAA 2026 have to submit a filled out medical certificate during document verification in the online reporting. This certificate is mandatory for all students irrespective of their category. The medical certificate is available in the JoSAA business rule (Annexure 7 - Page 99).

What is a Medical Certificate in JoSAA and Why Is It Needed?
A medical certificate in JoSAA is a mandatory document verifying that a candidate is physically and mentally fit to pursue an engineering program at participating institutes - IITs, NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs.
This certificate is demanded by the authorities during document verification to gather the following details:
- Identification Mark (a mole, scar or birthmark), if any
- Major illness/operation, if any
- Height, Weight, and Blood Group
- Mental illness
- Epileptic Fit
- Hearing and Visual
- Other general body examination
How to Download JoSAA Medical Certificate?
Candidaes can download the JoSAA medical certificate from the official website. Check the process below:
- Visit - josaa.nic.in.
- Now look for the "certificate format" tab.
- Under this tab, check the link for "Medical Certificate 2026".
- Download the PDF and take its printout on A4-size, clean, blank paper.

How to Fill Medical Fitness Certificate for JoSAA Counselling 2026?
After downloading and printing the medical certificate, students have to get it filled by a Registered Medical Practitioner.
- Visit a nearby general doctor who is registered.
- Carry the printed medical document.
- Get yourself examined by the general physician as per the criteria mentioned on the medical certificate. All the below criteria must be checked and filled by the doctor:
- Identification Mark (a mole, scar or birthmark), if any
- Major illness/operation, if any (specify nature of illness/operation)
- Height in cm, Weight in kg and Blood Group
- Past History of mental illness or Epileptic Fit
- Chest: Inspiration in cm and Expiration in cm
- Hearing
- Vision with or without glasses for both eyes
- Colour Blindness - yes or no
- Uniocular vision (having vision in only one eye) - yes or no
- Respiratory System
- Nervous System
- Heart: Sounds and Murmur
- Abdomen (Liver and Spleen), Hernia, Hydrocele
- Any other defects
The medical certificate must also be signed with:
- Name of the doctor
- His registration number
- Signature with date
After getting all the criteria checked and filled, students must take a scan of the document and submit it during the online reporting after JoSAA 2026 counselling seat allotment.
General Physical Expectation from Candidates Participating in JoSAA 2026
Candidates should have a good general physique with respect to:
- Chest measurement should not be less than 70 cm, with satisfactory limits of expansion and contraction.
- Vision should be normal. In case of defective vision, it should be corrected to 6/9 in both eyes or 6/6 in the better eye. Colour blind and uni-ocular (having vision in only one eye) persons are restricted from admission to certain courses.
- Hearing should be normal. Defective hearing should be corrected.
- Heart and lungs should not have any abnormality, and there should be no history of mental illness or epileptic fits.
