CBSE Class 10 Paper Pattern

CBSE Class 10 Science exams will consist of the following exams:

  • Board examination (theory) for 80 marks and
  • Internal assessment for 20 marks.

Internal assessment will be conducted in the following methods:

  1. Periodic Assessment for 10 marks
  2. Subject Enrichment Activities for 5 marks
  3. Portfolio for 5 marks

In addition, the pattern of the Science question paper is revised with many objective types and an increase in the total number of questions from 27 to 30.

The structure of the Science question paper will be as follows:

  • The question paper will have a total of thirty questions. These questions will be divided into three sections; A, B, and C.
  • Section A will have 14 objective-type questions consisting of MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) and assertion-reason type questions, each carrying 1 mark.
  • Section B contains ten very short answer-type questions with 3 marks each.
  • Section C contains 6 long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each

Science comprises three major areas: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

CBSE 10th Physics Syllabus

Physics is a branch of science that deals with the nature and properties of matter and energy. In physics, plenty of formula-based questions and theorem-based questions will be asked in the exam. Be well-versed with the diagrams of sound frequency, the human eye, prisms, AC and DC generator, rays of light, etc for better scores. Students should also have adequate knowledge of refraction, reflection, and corresponding diagrams. They should also practice numerical questions and revise fundamental concepts.

CBSE Class 10 Chemistry Syllabus

Chemistry is the study of matter and chemical reactions between substances. Chemistry has plenty of chemical reactions and equations to memorize. Students should also understand the concept of acids and bases, chemical reactions, saponification and cleansing action of soap, etc. The periodical table of elements is very important and good scores can be achieved in this topic by good revision. One should also ensure that chemical equations are properly balanced and to list down chemical reactions where conversion takes place from one compound to another.

CBSE 10th Biology Syllabus

Biology is concerned with life and living organisms. One can expect questions regarding photosynthesis, reproduction of organisms, Mendel’s experiments, etc. Diagrams are an essential part of biology. Hence, students should ensure that they can draw neat and detailed diagrams of plants, and various human body parts like the male and female reproductive organs, human heart, brain, etc. Students should learn Mendel’s experiments and the inheritance of traits in it and also be aware of the complex terminologies in biology.

CBSE Class 10th Science Preparation: General Tips

  1. Read NCERT science books thoroughly. Usually, question papers in the CBSE 10th board exams are based on these books.
  2. Always practice CBSE Class 10th board question papers of previous years as questions in exams are often repeated.
  3. After finishing the syllabus, keep revising all the topics on a regular basis so that students do not have difficulty recalling a topic a day before the exam.
  4. Do not learn any new topic a day or a few hours before the exam. This will merely cause confusion and unnecessary stress.
  5. Jot down important notes either digitally or on paper so as to memorize them quickly. Take the help of different study techniques such as flashcards, highlighting important topics in books, diagrams, joining a study group, etc.
  6. Avoid studying for hours at a stretch and take adequate breaks in between.
  7. Hydrate well, eat healthy foods and avoid junk food.
  8. Make a list of formulae and theories in a separate notebook for easy access and memorization.
  9. Sleep for a minimum of 7 to 8 hours before the day of exam.
  10. Prepare a proper time table and plan a study schedule to follow daily so one can complete the vast science syllabus on time and allow sufficient time for each topic.
  11. Write in a neat and clean manner in the exam answer sheet and ensure that the handwriting is legible.
  12. Attempt the easy questions first and then tackle the difficult questions in the exam sheet.
  13. Do not waste too much time on one question. Answer all the questions one knows and then focus on the remaining questions. Attempt answering all the questions.
  14. Keep an eye on the time as there are only three hours to attempt the theory paper.
  15. Practice solving sample question papers in 3 hours before the main examination as this will improve the speed of handwriting and accuracy of answers.
  16. Always analyze the answer sheet to avoid silly mistakes.
  17. Ensure not to write more than what is required in an answer. Students can include examples and diagrams to illustrate the point in the answers. In addition, keep the answers precise and to the point.
  18. Read the question paper carefully and not jumble up the questions. You should be relaxed and calm while taking the exam.
  19. Do not take the internal assessment lightly as even these marks can help one achieve a good score in the science exam.

Science is an interesting subject if one focuses on the concepts and learns them well. Hard work and dedication along with a good study routine is all one needs to score well in the science exam.
