Bombay High Court Rejects IIT Aspirants' Plea to Appear for JEE Advanced 2025

JEE Advanced 2025 is scheduled for May 26, with only the top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main eligible to appear.
The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition filed by two IIT aspirants seeking permission to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025 despite not qualifying through JEE Main. The division bench of Justices Nitin Borkar and Kamal Khata ruled that it could not grant special permission, noting that eligibility norms set by the authorities must be uniformly applied to all candidates.
The petitioners had requested a relaxation of the eligibility criteria, citing personal hardships that affected their JEE Main 2025 performance. However, the court observed that individual difficulties could not be grounds to override the established rules. "If the petitioners are granted permission, it would create an anomalous situation," the bench remarked.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) and IIT Madras, which is conducting JEE Advanced 2025, had opposed the plea, emphasizing that allowing exceptions would compromise the fairness of the national-level examination process. The court concurred, stating that eligibility conditions were crucial to maintain the credibility and integrity of the exam.
JEE Advanced 2025 is scheduled for May 26, with only the top 2.5 lakh candidates from JEE Main eligible to appear.
