NTA JEE Mains 2026: The National Testing Agency has activated the JEE Main 2026 registration demo link. The application form is likely to be released this week with the expected JEE Mains registration date 2026 session 1 as October 15, 2025. The JEE Main 2026 exam schedule and registration details were announced earlier on the official website on September 29, 2025 through a notice. As per the notification, JEE Main 2026 Application Form will be released in OctoberJEE Mains 2026 exam date session 1 is January, and session 2 will be conducted in April 2026. The notification also mentions that candidates have to ensure their Aadhar, UDID (for PWD candidates) and EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST certificate (for reserved category) are updated and valid.

What is JEE Main Exam?

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), commonly called JEE Main, is the national-level entrance exam for admission to B.TechBArch, and BPlan courses at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and many other private Institutions/universities. The JEE Mains is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main exam every year in January and April. The exam is conducted online as a computer based test in more than 300 cities across the country and in few cities outside India.

How Many Candidates Register for JEE Mains

More than 10 lakh candidates appear in the JEE Mains exam every year. The NTA releases data on how many candidates registered and appeared in JEE Main every year along with the result. Q:   What is JEE Mains 2026 exam date?
A: 

NTA has announced the JEE Main 2026 exam dates. JEE Main 2026 exam will be conducted in two sessions in January and April. The exact date of JEE exam 2026 will be announced along with the information brochure on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Q:   Is 75 percent marks in class 12 required for JEE Mains?
A: 

Candidates need not have 75 percent marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Main. As per the official brochure released by the NTA, there is no minimum percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main. The requirement of 75 percent marks need not be associated with appearing in the JEE Main exam.

It is to be understood that 75 percent marks is required for admission to institutes which include NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. Many institutes offer admission at 60% and even less, along with JEE Main. Candidates must clearly understand that the requirement of 75 percent marks in class 12 is only for taking admission in the institutes.

Q:   When will JEE Main 2026 Registration start?
A: 

JEE Main Registration 2026 will begin in October, as per the official notification released by the NTA. The information brochure for JEE Main 2026 exam will be released in October, post which the application form will be released. JEE Main 2026 Application form will be available online on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Q:   Which topics are most important in JEE Main Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics?

Students who are preparing for JEE Main exam are advised to first cover the entire JEE Main syllabus. Covering only the high weightage chapters would decrease their chances of getting full/high score in JEE Main exam. Only after covering the entire syllabus, students can check most important chapters for JEE Mains.

Q:   How many candidates appear in JEE Mains exam every year?
A: 

As per the official numbers released by the NTA, a total of 13.11 lakh candidates registered for the JEE Main 2025 session 1 exam of which 12.58 lakh candidates appeared. This is the highest number of candidates appeared in JEE Mains. In JEE Main 2024, the total number of unique candidates who appeared both the session is 11.7 lakh.  Canddiates can see the gender-wise distribution of candidates below. Generally, the number of unique candidates appearing in JEE Main every year is around 10 Lacs in both sessions. The exact number of students is released by the NTA every year on the official website with category, gender and state-wise data. Q:   What is the language of JEE Main exam question paper?
A: 

JEE Main exam is conducted in a total of 13 languages - English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Candidates can select their preferred language in which they wish to appear in the exam at the time of filling the application form. During the exam, the question paper will be available in two language, English and the language selected at the time of filling the form. Candidates can switch between the two langauge during the exam from their computer screen. The language of question paper can not be changed after filling the application form.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2026 - Who can apply?

The NTA has not yet released the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria. Students can refer to the previous year's criteria below to understand the conditions they need to fulfil to apply for the exam related to JEE Mains age limit, class 12 percentage etc. The eligibility criteria are as follows.

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens. Foreign Nationals, NRIs, PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), and OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India) can also apply.
  • Candidates must have completed/ appearing in Class 12.
  • There is No Age limit for appearing in the exam.
  • No minimum marks required in Class 12 to appear in JEE Mains.
  • Candidates can appear in JEE Mains for three consecutive years from the year of passing Class 12.

JEE Main Minimum Age Criteria 

As per NTA, there is no age limit for candidates to appear in the JEE Main exam. The candidates who have passed the class 12/ equivalent examination in 2024, 2025 or are appearing in 2026, irrespective of their age, can appear in the JEE Main 2026 examination. However, the candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the Institutes to which they are desirous of taking admission.

JEE Main 75% Marks Criteria

There is no requirement of 75% marks to appear in JEE Mains. Candidates can appear in JEE entrance examination without the requirement of any minimum percentage in JEE Main required to appear in JEE Mains. The criteria of 75% marks in class 12 is applicable at the time of admission to NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs. However, many institutes have no minimum marks criteria for admission.

JEE Main State Code of Eligibility

State code of eligibility means the code of the State from where the candidate has passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) qualifying examination, under which the candidate becomes eligible to appear in JEE Main 2026. It is important to note that the State code of eligibility does NOT depend upon the native place or the place of residence of the candidate. For example, if a candidate appears for the Class 12 qualifying examination from an Institution situated in New Delhi and is a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, then the candidate’s State code of eligibility will be Delhi and NOT Uttar Pradesh.

List of Qualifying Exams for JEE Mains

  • As far as academic qualifications are required, candidates must have passed either the 10+2 system from recognized Central or State Boards like CBSE or CISCE; intermediate or pre-university exams; the final examination of the NDA’s Joint Services Wing two-year course; or the Senior Secondary School Examination from NIOS with at least five subjects.
  • Other acceptable qualifications include a 3-year diploma recognized by AICTE or State boards of technical education, GCE A-level exams (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka), the Cambridge High School Certificate, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma from Geneva.
  • For candidates who have completed their Class 12 outside India or a non-listed board, a certificate of equivalence from AIU is mandatory. Additionally, if Class 12 was not a public examination, the candidate should have passed at least one public Board/pre-university exam previously.

Q:   What is JEE Main class 12th percentage criteria?
A: 

As per NTA, there is no minimum percentage required to appear in JEE Mains exam. Students can appear in JEE Main 2026 without worrying about their class 12 percentage. However, it must be noted that various institutes have creiteria of minimum percentage in class 12 for admission. For example, IITs and NITs require minimum 75% marks in class 12 for admission to BTech courses.

Q:   I do not have Chemistry subject in my class 12. Can I still apply for JEE Main?
A: 

As per the JEE Main eligibility criteria, candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and any one subject from the optional list of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical vocation course. If you have any of the sunject from optional list and both compulsory subjetc, you can apply for JEE Mains. For more details, candidates can visit the official JEE Main website.

Q:   What is JEE Main Eligibility Criteria?

The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Main are

  • Candidate must have passed or appearing in class 12
  • There is no age limit to appear in JEE Mains

JEE Main 2026 Application Form

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the JEE Main 2026 Application Form online at its official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in The exact JEE Mains registration date 2026 has not been announced, but the application process will start in October as per the notification available on the JEE Main official website. While filling the application form, candidates have to provide information about their education (class 10 and 12), address, parents' details, category, exam city preference, and upload a scanned image of their passport-sized photo and signature as per the prescribed format. Candidates of OBC-NCL/EWS/SC/ST category need to provide details of the certificate issuing person and date of issue in the application form. The PwD/PwBD candidates need to upload their category certificates as well.

Candidates will have to pay the JEE Main application form fees, which is INR 1000 for general category candidates, while for OBC candidates it is INR 800, and for SC it is INR 500. The payment of application fees has to be done online through credit/debit card, internet banking/UPI.

How to Apply for JEE Mains 2026

The step-by-step process to fill the application form is given here

  1. Open the JEE Main website
  2. Click on the "New Candidate Registration" link
  3. Candidates have to enter the required details like name, parents name, email ID, mobile number, address
  4. Once the candidate completes NTA JEE Mains 2026 Registration, they’ll need to fill the application form by filling details about category, class 10 and 12 education, parents name and address, paper for which appearing (BTech or BArch/BPlan), exam city preference.
  5. Students need to upload scanned image of photo, signature, class 10 certificate and PwD/PwBD certificate (If applicable)
  6. Pay the fees online using credit card/ debit card/ UPI or internet banking

JEE Main application form will be submitted automatically once the candidate pays application fees. Candidates will receive the acknowledgment slip through email and SMS mentioning details about their application form. Students must download the application form and keep it safe.

JEE Main Application Form Correction 2026

The facility of JEE Main application correction is provided to rectify the mistakes, if any, in the form submitted by the candidates. JEE Main correction window 2026 will be available after the completion of application proecss. Candidates are allowed to modify details in their filled form by login to the website. Candidates must note that only certain information like category, address, photo, and signature will be available for corrections during the facility. 

How to Make Changes in JEE Main Application Form 2026

  • Open the website jeemain.nta.nic.in
  • Login using your application number and password
  • Click on JEE Main correction link
  • Application form filled by candidate will be displayed on screen
  • Select the information that needs to be modified and make the required changes
  • Click on "Confirm and Save" button after making changes

Candidates can download the JEE Main syllabus from the table below or from the official website. The NTA JEE Mains syllabus is based on class 11 and 12 topics, so to have an edge over the competition, candidates must study from the NCERT books of class 11 and 12.

JEE Main is conducted for multiple courses and the syllabus is different for each course. JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

The NTA is yet to release details on the exam pattern for JEE Mains 2026. As per last year's pattern, the JEE Main exam will be conducted online for all three papers- Paper 1 for BE/BTech, Paper 2A for BArch, and Paper 2B for BPlan. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours. Also, as per the JEE Main marking scheme, each question is of 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

As per the JEE Main exam pattern for Paper 1, there will be 75 questions of 4 marks each in Paper 1, 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In Paper 2A, 25 questions will be from Maths, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from drawing. Q:   What is the difficulty level of JEE Main?

The difficulty level of JEE Main is similar to class 12 board exams. Also, the syllabus of JEE Main is similar to class 11 and 12 syllabus. Questions in the JEE Main exam are of two types

Numerical Ability Question - In these type of questions, no options are provided. Candidates have to solve the question and write its answer using keyword and mouse. Answer to these questions will be a numerical value.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of JEE Mains?
A: 

JEE Main 2026 exam pattern will be released soon by the NTA. As per the previous year exam pattern, the JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) exam will consist of 75 questions, 25 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 will be MCQs and 5 will be NAV. Students need to answer all 75 questions. JEE Main paper 2A for B.Arch consists of 77 questions of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from Drawing. In Paper 2B for BPlan total questions are 100 of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 25 from Planning.

The question paper will have no internal choices within questions and total duration of exam is 3 hours.

Q:   How many mock tests should I take before appearing for JEE Main 2026?

Candidates are advised to solve at least 10 to 15 mock tests in the last one month before appearing for the real examination. NTA will release the JEE Main Admit Card 2026 around 2 days before the exam starts. The admit card download link will be available on the JEE Main official website. Candidates have to use login to website using their application number and password/date of birth for JEE Main hall ticket download.

The admit card will have details about candidate's name, roll number, exam centre address, guidelines, question paper for which appearing, and date, time of exam. Candidates must review all the information mentioned on their admit card after downloading. In case any mismatch in personal details are found, they must contact the NTA for correction.

Candidates must take a printout of their NTA JEE Mains 2026 Admit Card, preferably a colour printout, and carry it along with one photo ID proof (Aadhar/PAN/any other government-issued ID) and one passport-size photo (the same photo uploaded in the application form) to the exam centre.

The National Testing Agency releases the JEE Main exam city slip a few days before the release of admit cards. JEE Main city intimation slip gives details about the exam date and exam city of candidate. No, soft copies of admit card are not permissible. It is mandatory to carry a print copy of the JEE Main admit card to the exam centre. Candidates carrying soft copies of the admit card on their mobile phones will not be allowed to appear in the exam. They require a physical copy of the JEE Main admit card for verification purposes. So, it'sadvised to download the hall ticket from website and take a printed copy of it to the exam centre. However, it's always a good idea to keep a digital copy of the admit card on your mobile phone as well, in case you need to show it to anyone else. But, make sure to carry the printed copy to the exam centre. 

Q:   Is it mandatory to carry colour printout of JEE Main admit card?

No, it is not compulsory to bring the colour printout of JEE Main admit card to the exam centre. It is recommended to bring the colour printout becasue of better clarity, however, a black & white printout will also work as long as all the details mentioned in the admit card is clear. According to the official notice, candidates need to bring the printout of the admit along with the (original) Photo Identity Card, whose number is mentioned in the admit card. They need to bring the admit card in each session to secure admission to exam centre. Candidates need to preserve the admit card till the declaration of the final result as it is required for the admission process.

Q:   What should I do if my photo is not clear in JEE Main admit card?

If the photo on your JEE Main admit card is blurred or not clear, you should contact the NTA as soon as possible to get it corrected. You can contact them through JEE Main official website or helpline numbers. It is important to get the issue resolved before the exam day, as the admit card serves as a valid identity proof and without a clear photograph, you may face difficulties in the examination hall. You may be required to provide a new photograph or a scanned copy of your passport-sized photograph with clear specifications, such as size, format, and resolution. JEE Main Answer Key 2026

The NTA releases the JEE Main Answer Key PDF on its website within 2-3 days after the completion of the exam. First, the JEE Main Provisional Answer Key is released., where Candidates having any objection to the provisional JEE Main Answer key PDF could submit their grievances online within the specified dates. To raise objections, they will have to pay INR 200 per question to raise objections. 

The grievances submitted by the candidates will be reviewed by the NTA post which the final answer key is released. Along with JEE Main answer key download, NTA also releases the JEE Main Response Sheet 2026 and question paper PDF. The link for JEE Main Answer key response sheet, papers are available through JEE Main login on the website.

Candidates will be able to raise objections against the provisional JEE Main answer key 2024 online. For every objection, the candidates will have to pay INR 500. The fee payment has to be done online i.e., through credit card/debit card/net banking. If the candidates do not pay the required fee then their objections will not be accepted. Along with the fee, the candidates will also have to submit the supporting proof for the objections.

JEE Mains 2026 Result

NTA will declare the JEE Mains Result around 10 days after the exam. JEE Main Result scorecard will  have details of the candidate's normalized percentile score in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and aggregate percentile score in all three subjects. To download the scorecard, candidates will have to use their application number and password at the JEE Mains login at the official website. Candidates must download the JEE Main result and keep it safe for admission purposes. NTA will release the JEE Mains cutoff 2026 along with the session 2 result in April. JEE Main cutoff is the minimum percentile score that candidates have to score to qualify for appearing in JEE Advanced. JEE Main cutoff is different for various categories. Candidates must note that there are NO minimum marks or cutoffs that students need to obtain to pass the JEE Main exam. JEE Main Counselling 2026

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) organizes the admission process collectively for JEE Main and Advanced qualified candidates. There are total 119 institutions for which JoSAA organizers the counselling process- 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 38 other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs).

Only JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible to participate in the JoSAA counselling. For participating in IITs admission, candidates must have JEE Advanced scores whereas for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must JEE Main qualified. To participate in the counselling, candidates have to register online at the JoSAA portal and fill their choices of preferred colleges and courses for the allotment of seats. The schedule of JoSAA 2026 will be announced in June.

JoSAA Counselling Process: Step-by-Step Guide

The JoSAA counselling process consists of several stages which includes.

Registration is the first step. In this stage, candidates have to register on the official JoSAA portal using JEE Main/Advanced credentials.

Choice Filling is to be done after completing the registration process. In this stage, candidates can select their preferred courses and institutes.

Seat Allotment: The third step is choice locking, where selections must be finalized and saved for reference, and based on the candidate's rank, preferences, and seat availability, seat allocation takes place.

Seat Confirmation by Candidates/ Online Fee Payment/Institute Reporting: After seat allocation, candidates will have to confirm their admission by selecting the freeze/float option. If candidates select the Freeze/Float option, they have to submit the college fees online, upload their documents and report to the allotted institute.  In case candidate selects the slid option, they will proceed to the next round.

Q:   What is the qualifying score in JEE Main?

There is no minimum qualifying marks in JEE Main. Exam. However, any candidate who wish to appear in JEE Advanced need to obtain the minimum cutoff marks in JEE Main. Candidates gets all India rank in JEE Main on the basis of the score they get in the exam. Admission to the institutes like NITs, IIITs and GFTIs is given on the basis of all India rank of candidates. Candidates who wish to apply for JEE Advanced need to get the minimum JEE Main qualifying cutoff marks only after which they can apply for admission to IITs.
Q:   How many times JEE Main is conducted in a year?
A: 

National Testing Agency generally conducts the JEE Main exam two times in a year. The first attempt is conducted in January and the second attempt in April. JEE Main 2026 exam dates will be announced soon by the NTA. The first attempt of JEE Main 2026 will likely be conducted in the last week of January while the second attempt will be conducted in April first week. Only in the year 2022, NTA conducted JEE Mains in four sessions due to COVID-19. The number of sessions and date for any year is announced by the NTA at the time of release of application form.

Q:   How much is 120 marks in JEE Mains percentile?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will declare the JEE Mains result 2026 in the form of percentile scores. Candidates can check here the previous year JEE Main marks vs percentile data to understand how much is 120 marks in JEE Main percentile.

As per the last year JEE Main marks vs percentile analysis, 120 marks would be around 95 to 97 percentile. However, the exact JEE Main 2025 percentile marks 120 would vary depending upon the highest number scored by the candidate in a particula shift and the total number candidates appeared in that particular shift. 

Q:   Is JEE Main syllabus same as syllabus of JEE Advanced?

The syllabus of JEE Mains is not same as JEE Advanced. Candidates must note that JEE Mains and Advanced are two different exam meant for different purposes. JEE Main is conducted for admission to NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs while JEE Advanced is conducted for admission to IITs. In terms of syllabus, although both JEE Mains and Advanced have class 11 and 12 topics of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, there are some topics which are a part of Mains syllabus but not in Advanced. Also, the difficulty level of JEE Advanced is way ahead of JEE Mains. Students preparing for the JEE Advanced exam can download the syllabus from the Shiksha page.

Q:   What should be my rank in JEE Advanced to get admission in top IITs?
A: 

To get admission in IITs, any rank around 5000 AIR is safe (for the unreserved category). However, the rank for reserved category candidates will be higher (in the range of 10,000 to 15,000) for admission to the top IITs. To get a seat in top IIT and the highly sorted course like CSE, achieving a rank within the approximate range of 2000-2500 is typically required. It's important to note that the exact cutoff can differ each year due to factors such as the number of candidates, the difficulty level of the exam, and the availability of seats.

Q:   What is JEE Main Eligibility Criteria?

The eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Main are

  • Candidate must have passed or appearing in class 12
  • There is no age limit to appear in JEE Mains
  • No minimum percentage is required to appear in the JEE Mains exam. 75% marks required after qualifying JEE Mains for admission in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
  • Candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/any other vocational subject for Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech). For paper 2, candidates need to have Mathematics as compulsory subject along with any other subject combination. Candidates can appear in JEE for three consecutive years from the year of passing class 12

According to the JoSAA seat matrix, the total seats in IITs are 17760, while the number of seats in NITs and IIITs is 24229 and 8546, respectively. The participating institutes of JEE Main are the colleges that participate in the JoSAA counselling for admission in various Engineering, Architecture and Planning courses. Such institutes organise their counselling process for admission.

The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.

Yes. Students with valid JEE Main scores can apply for admissions through the WBJEE counselling. However, these students will be eligible for allotment only in the 10% approved seats offered by the self-financing colleges and institutes participating in the state-level counselling.
