Formula to Calculate NTA JEE Main Percentile

NTA uses a normalisation formula to calculate the JEE Main percentile. The steps used to calculate the JEE Main percentile from raw scores of the candidates are given below:

Step 1: Raw Score Calculation

The raw scores of the candidates are calculated using the marking scheme of the JEE Main 2026 exam:

  • +4 for each correct answer.
  • -1 for each wrong attempt.
  • 0 for unanswered

Step 2: Raw Marks to Percentile

The raw scores of the candidates are converted into a percentile score or NTA score in each subject. The total marks out of 300 are also converted to a percentile score using the formulas below:

Is 240 a Good Score in JEE Mains 2026?

240 marks in JEE Mains corresponds to a 99.5 to 99.9 percentile. Therefore, 240 is considered an excellent score in JEE Main 2026. Candidates with these marks are expected to get a JEE Main rank between 5000 and 11000. In JEE Main, results are declared in percentiles, while admission is done based on rank. The All India Rank is calculated from the percentile and not from the raw marks. Therefore, the candidates must know the relation between marks, ranks and percentiles. Candidates with this score definitely qualify for JoSAA counselling and will also be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Yes, you can wear a hijab in the JEE Mains exam as it is considered a religious item. However, you will likely undergo enhanced security checks at the exam centre.

OJEE and JEE syllabus is somewhat same and different in some places. The OJEE syllabus for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is different from JEE. In JEE, the physics syllabus includes topics such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics, etc. These topics require knowledge of physics topics.
