NTA uses a normalisation formula to calculate the JEE Main percentile. The steps used to calculate the JEE Main percentile from raw scores of the candidates are given below:
Step 1: Raw Score Calculation
The raw scores of the candidates are calculated using the marking scheme of the JEE Main 2026 exam:
- +4 for each correct answer.
- -1 for each wrong attempt.
- 0 for unanswered
Step 2: Raw Marks to Percentile
The raw scores of the candidates are converted into a percentile score or NTA score in each subject. The total marks out of 300 are also converted to a percentile score using the formulas below:

Is 240 a Good Score in JEE Mains 2026?
240 marks in JEE Mains corresponds to a 99.5 to 99.9 percentile. Therefore, 240 is considered an excellent score in JEE Main 2026. Candidates with these marks are expected to get a JEE Main rank between 5000 and 11000. In JEE Main, results are declared in percentiles, while admission is done based on rank.
