Which Physics Chapters Are Most Important for JEE Main 2027?

Students should focus extra attention on chapters that combine key concepts with regular practice opportunities. The following topics are useful starting points for preparation.

1. Current Electricity

Current Electricity is an important chapter for numerical practice. Students should understand Ohm's law, resistance, resistivity, series and parallel combinations, Kirchhoff's laws and electrical power. Practise questions involving equivalent resistance and electrical circuits. Make sure you understand the concepts instead of relying only on memorised formulas.

2. Electrostatics and Capacitance

Prepare Electric Charges and Fields, Electric Potential and Capacitance carefully. Important concepts include Coulomb's law, electric field, electric potential, Gauss's law, capacitors and the energy stored in a capacitor. Practise problems involving multiple charges, electric potential and combinations of capacitors.

3. Ray Optics and Wave Optics

Optics includes both conceptual and numerical questions. In Ray Optics, focus on mirrors, lenses, refraction, image formation and optical instruments. In Wave Optics, revise interference, Young's double-slit experiment and other concepts included in the current syllabus. Practise questions involving sign conventions, lens formulas and image positions.

4. Modern Physics

Modern Physics is a useful area for focused revision. Prepare Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Atoms, Nuclei and Semiconductor Electronics. Important concepts include the photoelectric effect, de Broglie wavelength, Bohr's atomic model, radioactive decay, binding energy and semiconductor devices. Revise the formulas and practise previous-year questions to improve speed and accuracy.

5. Mechanics

Mechanics covers several chapters and forms an important part of Physics. Start with Kinematics and Newton's Laws of Motion before moving to Work, Energy and Power, Rotational Motion, Centre of Mass and Gravitation. Focus on free-body diagrams, conservation of energy, momentum and the relationship between force and motion.

6. Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory of Gases

Understand the laws of thermodynamics, heat, work, internal energy and the behaviour of ideal gases. Revise the assumptions and formulas used in Kinetic Theory of Gases. Practise numerical problems and learn how the variables in a question are related.

7. Magnetism and Electromagnetic Induction

Prepare Moving Charges and Magnetism, Magnetism and Matter, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current. Important concepts include magnetic force, magnetic fields, Faraday's law, Lenz's law, induced electromotive force and AC circuits. Practise questions involving the direction of magnetic force and induced current.

JEE Main Physics Weightage for Class 11 and Class 12 Chapters

Physics preparation should cover both Class 11 and Class 12 topics. Students should not assume that one class will always contribute more questions than the other because the distribution can change between examination shifts.

  • Class 11 topics include Mechanics, Gravitation, Properties of Matter, Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Oscillations and Waves.
  • Class 12 topics include Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction, Optics, Modern Physics and Semiconductor Electronics.

Students comfortable with Class 12 chapters should keep revising them while strengthening their Class 11 fundamentals. Those who find Mechanics difficult should practise basic problems before attempting lengthy numerical questions.

How to Prepare JEE Mains 2027 Physics According to Chapter-Wise Weightage

A chapter-wise preparation plan can help students use their study time effectively. Follow these steps to organise your preparation for JEE Main 2027.

  • Check the official syllabus: Use the latest JEE Mains 2027 syllabus published on the NTA website. Do not rely on old chapter lists without checking whether the topics are included in the current syllabus.
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses: Divide chapters into topics you know well, topics that need practice and topics you have not studied properly.
  • Build conceptual clarity: Understand the theory and derivation behind important formulas wherever required. This will help you solve unfamiliar questions.
  • Solve previous-year questions: Practise questions from different years and shifts after completing each chapter. This helps you understand the question patterns and difficulty level.
  • Maintain a formula notebook: Write down important formulas, units, conditions and common mistakes. Revise the notebook regularly instead of waiting until the final days.
  • Take mock tests: Attempt full-length JEE Mains 2027 mock tests under exam-like conditions. Analyse your incorrect answers and identify the chapters that need more revision.
  • Revise regularly: Return to completed chapters at fixed intervals. Regular revision can help you retain formulas and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   In how much time can I complete the entire JEE Main syllabus?
A:

Time required to cover JEE Main syllabus changes from one student to another student. In general, to complete the entire JEE Main syllabus, students would require around 1 year. The ideal time to start preparing for JEE Main is class 11 as the syllabus for JEE and class 11-12 is similar. Students who are studying in class 11 can point out the topics that are common in both and pay special emphasis to those topics.

Q:   Which chapters are important in Physics Chemistry and Mathematics for JEE Main exam?
A:
Candidates can check here the important chapters for JEE Main Physics Chemistry and Mathematics Physics Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism (Equal importance) Modern Physics Optics Heat and Thermodynamics and Waves Sound Measurement and errors Chemistry Gaseous State Chemical Kinetics Organic Chemistry Reactions of Benzene Ores and Metallurgy Thermodynamics Polymers Environmental Chemistry Mathematics Algebra Trigonometry Analytical Geometry Differential Calculus Integral Calculus Vectors.
Q:   How many chapters are in JEE Mains syllabus?
A:

National Testing Agency releases the JEE Main exam syllabus online. You can check the syllabus and know the names of chapters and topics. Here we have provded the detail of chapters in JEE Main syllabus.

  • 19 Chapters in Physics (Also 1 chapter for experimental skills)
  • 20 Chapters in Chemistry
  • 14 Chapters in Mathematics

There is less possibility of any increase or decrease in chapters of JEE Main 2026 syllabus. However, candidates are advised to stay updated with the latest syllabus by visiting the JEE Main syllabus page or the official website of JEE Mains.

Q:   Where can I get JEE Main 2027 syllabus PDF?
A:

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus PDF is made available on the official website of jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Can Students Skip Low-Weightage JEE Mains 2027 Physics Chapters?

Students should avoid skipping chapters only because they appear to have lower weightage in previous-year analyses. A chapter that contributed fewer questions in earlier papers may still appear in a future shift. The distribution can also vary from one year to another.

If time is limited, prioritise chapters that you can understand and revise effectively, but continue covering the rest of the syllabus wherever possible. Complete the fundamentals of each chapter before moving to advanced questions. This approach can help you attempt a wider range of questions in the examination.

Q&A Icon
Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is JEE Main syllabus same as syllabus of JEE Advanced?
A:

No both are not same. But some topics are similar in JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Students who qualify the JEE Main exam and are among the top 250000 students are eligible to take the JEE Advanced.  Due to this reason majority of syllabi are the same, but a few extra topics are added in JEE Advanced.
