JEE Main Result 2021: Why NTA declares result in Percentile and not in marks
Candidates must be aware that a percentile is different from percentage. The percentile score of a candidate is the comparison score between the score of a candidate and rest of students who appeared in his/her particular shift.
For example, if a candidate scores 75 marks in JEE Main result 2021 July session in a particular shift on any particular day, and is his/her percentile score is 85, it means that the candidate has scored more than 85% of the candidates which appeared on the same day and shift with him/her.
Scores are calculated in percentile in case when an exam is conducted on multiple days and shifts because there is a possibility that students of a shift on any day might get easier or difficult paper in comparison to students in any other day or shift. To overcome this possible parity, JEE Main result is announced as percentile score.
