JEE 2026 Tie Rule Explanation: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has mentioned the tie-breaking rule for JEE Mains paper 1 (BE/Tech), paper 2a (BArch) and paper 2b (BPlan). In case two or more candidates get the same percentile score, then NTA will follow a set rule to break the ties. The tie-breaking rule is explained in detail in the article below. Note that, previously the JEE Mains tie-breaking rule used to include the "age criteria" too. However, the "age criteria" for breaking ties has been dropped in 2024.

Check below the tie-breaking rule for JEE Mains 2026 paper 1:
- Candidates with a better NTA score in Mathematics will be given a higher rank.
- If that fails, then NTA score in Physics will be given priority
- If that fails, then NTA score in Chemistry will be given priority
If all the above criteria fail, then
- A candidate with a lower proportion of incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test will be considered for a better rank
- Followed by a candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the test
- Followed by a candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the test
- Followed by a candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the test
If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

- Followed by a candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Aptitude in the test
