Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE Advanced) is an entrance examination conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board for admission to BTech programmes offered by IITs. It was started in the year 2012 in place of Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE). Every year, nearly 1,60,000 candidates contest in the exam to secure a seat in anyone of the IITs.
JEE Advanced is being conducted in online mode since 2018. It has two compulsory papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, which incorporate objective type (multiple choice and/or numerical answer type) questions. The time allowed for solving each paper is 3 hours (180 minutes) [4 hours (240 minutes) for PwD candidates.
JEE Advanced Colleges in India: Eligibility Criteria
For Indian Nationals
Getting a chance to compete in JEE Advanced is not that easy. Candidates whose name appear in the JEE Main list of 1 to 2,50,000 ranker regardless of their category are only eligible for writing JEE Advanced. Read more key points related to the eligibility criteria to apply for JEE Advanced below:
- A candidate can write the exam a maximum of two times in two consecutive years
- Candidates appearing in Class 12 or equivalent exam for the first time can also apply
- Candidates age should not exceed age of 24 years
- Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate (65% for SC, ST and PWD) in the Class 12 (or equivalent) board examination
For Foreign Nationals
- Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total number of seats in every course
- They are not eligible for reservation of seats under the GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD (Persons with Disability) categories as mandated by Govt. of India
- They are not required to appear in JEE Main and can directly apply for JEE Advanced if they are meeting the eligibility criteria
- Foreign nationals should possess Identity proof of the candidate is required in the form of a citizenship certificate/passport
