JEE Advanced 2026: The IIT JEE Advanced exam is held annually for admission to the 23 IITs in India. IIT Roorkee is expected to conduct the JEE Advanced 2026 exam in CBT mode across India and some foreign cities. What is JEE Advanced?

JEE Advanced is the second-stage test (after JEE Main) for aspiring candidates who want to take admission to the IITs. Remember, only the top 2.5 lakh performers in JEE Main get to challenge JEE Advanced. It is your doorway to the prestigious IITs and is considered one of the toughest exams in the world.

JEE Advanced Organising IITs

The exam is conducted annually by one of the 7 IITs or IISc Bangalore in CBT mode, under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The IITs are arranged in a rational order to conduct the exam, and the rotation is usually from the top to the bottom of the list, starting again at the top of the list, and so on. The exam is guided by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). This rotation system is essentially a way to ensure fair distribution of exam conducting responsibility among the seven zonal IITs.

Who can take JEE Advanced?

A candidate is eligible for JEE Advanced if:

They are among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/BTech).
Within the prescribed age limit.
They have not exhausted their two attempts.
First Class XII attempt in the current year or the previous year.
Not admitted to IIT earlier.

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The JEE Advanced syllabus includes Physics, Chemistry, and Maths of classes 11 and 12. What adds to the difficulty level of the JEE Advanced exam is its dynamic exam pattern. Unlike many entrance exams, where the exam marking scheme and other details are notified to the candidates beforehand, IIT JEE Advanced likes to keep them a secret until the exam day. The exam has two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers are compulsory.
Paper 1 has three sections - Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The same goes for Paper 2.
Each paper is of three hours duration. The total exam duration is 6 hours.
The exam is held in CBT mode with questions displayed in English and Hindi.

#1. Number of attempts in JEE Advanced 2026

A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. To explain this:

A candidate who has appeared for JEE Advanced 2025 for the first time can also appear for JEE Advanced 2026.
Also, a candidate who will appear for JEE Advanced 2026 for the first time can participate in JEE Advanced 2027.
Candidates who took JEE Advanced in 2024 or earlier cannot appear in JEE Advanced 2026.

Is there a chance of 3rd attempt in JEE Advanced 2026?

In 2025, IIT Kanpur, which conducted JEE Advanced, announced a three-attempt limit. However, in a few days, the attempt limit was rolled back to two. This has made the JEE Advanced 2026 aspirants curious about the attempt limits for the upcoming JEE Advanced exam after a short-lived three-attempt rule was announced last year. Started preparation for JEE in class 11th.
The first books to refer to are always NCERT, after the class notes given by my teachers.
For JEE Advanced, NCERT is necessary but not sufficient; hence would refer to all the assignments, packages, and modules given to me by my teachers for preparing for JEE Advanced.
Started taking full-length mock tests around 2 weeks after completing my JEE Advanced syllabus for the first time, around 8 months before JEE Advanced.
The strategy in the exam was to complete one subject at a time in the order CPM rather than going in rounds and switching subjects too frequently. But would not recommend everyone to follow the same strategy; rather, discuss it with your teachers.

Dedicated sufficient time to understand the fundamental concepts of each subject thoroughly.
Made sure to cover the syllabus efficiently.
Regular practice was a crucial aspect of preparation.
In the exam, first, solve the easy questions of chemistry - a scoring and easy subject. Then solve easy questions from Physics, followed by Maths. At last, reattempt the unsolved questions. Focus on maintaining accuracy during paper solving.

Only those candidates who secure JEE Main 2026 rank among the top 2.5 lakh candidates are eligible to fill the JEE Advanced application form. The application process is online, and the form is made available only on the official website.

How to apply for JEE Advanced 2026

As the first step, every student needs to register through the official website, jeeadv.ac.in, by providing their JEE Main 2026 roll number, password, and security pin.
As the second step, students have to enter various personal details like their name, parents’ names, communication details, address details, etc., in the specific columns of the JEE Advanced 2026 application form. The details entered in the application form must be accurate, as incorrect details may lead to the cancellation of candidature at later stages.
Students must also enter their choices of exam centres while filling out the application form.
Apart from the details, students will also need to upload scanned images of the documents needed.
After submitting all the details, students must take multiple printouts of the final application form for future requirements

List of Documents needed by candidates who dropped out between November 5 and November 18, 2024 - as stated in the official brochure:

A letter duly stamped and signed, from the Head of their Institution (Dean/Principal/Director), as per the format given in the updated JEE Advanced 2026 information brochure.
An affidavit duly stamped and attested by a notary public, on a nonjudicial stamp paper of INR 10 as per the format given in the updated JEE Advanced 2026 information brochure. The affidavit should be of the candidate if she/he is more than 18 years of age. If the candidate is less than 18 years of age, the affidavit should be given by their parent or legal guardian.
Withdrawal letter/notification issued to the candidate by their college/university/institute.

Candidates who successfully register by paying the application fee are issued the JEE Advanced admit card 2026. On the day of the exam, candidates must carry a printed copy of the downloaded JEE Advanced 2026 admit card and their valid original photo identity card. Where and how to get the JEE Advanced admit card 2026: Candidates can access the admit card under their respective JEE Advanced 2026 login at jeeadv.ac.in. To download the JEE Advanced admit card 2026, candidates have to use their JEE Main 2026 application number and date of birth.

Details on JEE Advanced admit card: The admit card will have these details - Name, Roll number for JEE (Advanced) 2025, JEE (Main) Application Number, photograph, signature, date of birth, address for correspondence and category. In addition, the admit card will have the name and address of the examination centre allotted to the candidate

Importance of JEE Advanced admit card: Without the JEE Advanced admit card, candidates are not allowed entry at the exam centre. Additionally, important exam day guidelines and instructions are provided to the candidates through the admit card.

How to carry the JEE Advanced 2026 admit card on the exam day: On the day of the exam, candidates must carry the printed copy of the JEE Advanced admit card 2026. With the admit card, candidates must also carry a valid ORIGINAL photo ID proof, which can be any one of these:

School/College/Institute ID
Driving License
Voter ID
Passport
PAN Card
Notarised Certificate with photograph

Only candidates having valid admit cards and photo identity cards are allowed to write the examination. Only pens, pencils, drinking water in a transparent bottle, a downloaded admit card and an original photo identity card are allowed to be taken inside the examination hall.

In case of discrepancy in the admit card: Candidates should carefully examine the entries in the admit card, and in case of any error, they should contact the Chairperson, JEE (Advanced) 2026 of the respective Zonal coordinating IIT. Also, if there are issues with downloading the admit card, the candidate should immediately contact the Zonal Chairperson, JEE (Advanced) 2026.

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Centres

The JEE Advanced 2026 exam centres are placed across various cities in India and abroad. Candidates are allowed to choose the test cities of their choice and preference while filling out the online form. JEE Advanced exam centres are divided into seven zones, namely - IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Roorkee.

Candidates are also asked to select their zone and exam city based on their preference at the time of filling out the JEE Advanced 2026 application form. The centre for the exam is allotted to the candidates, and the details of the centre, such as the address, name, reporting time, etc, are made available with the JEE Advanced 2026 admit card.

JEE Advanced 2026 Result

DeskCalendar Result: Jun ' 26

JEE Advanced 2026 result is announced online on the official website - jeeadv.ac.in. Candidates have to log in to check their scores and download the scorecard. Text messages will also be sent to the candidates to their registered mobile numbers. Individual rank cards will not be sent to candidates.

The marks obtained by a candidate in Physics in JEE Advanced 2026 will be equal to the marks scored in the Physics part of Paper 1 plus the marks scored in the Physics part of Paper 2. Marks obtained in Chemistry and Mathematics will be calculated in the same way. The aggregate marks obtained by a candidate in JEE (Advanced) 2026 will be the sum of the marks awarded to the candidate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

A candidate is said to have qualified in JEE (Advanced) if they secure the minimum percentage of marks in each subject and the aggregate, as per the respective category.

Ranklist: Rank lists are prepared based on the aggregate marks in JEE (Advanced) 2026. Only candidates who appear for BOTH Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for ranking. There will be no waiting list for ranking.

JEE Advanced 2026 Cutoff

The JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff indicates the minimum marks needed by the candidates to pass the exam. Those candidates who qualify the exam are allotted ranks. To qualify JEE Advanced, candidates have to achieve a minimum score in each subject and also in aggregate. The JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff is released with the information brochure; however, this cutoff is revised after the result is released, depending on the qualifying candidates, the number of seats in the IIT and various other factors.

The seats across IITs, NITs, IIITs and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) is allotted through a common process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), held in online mode. Candidates who get a rank in JEE (Advanced) 2026 are eligible to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation process for IIT admissions. JoSAA is held online only and all the candidates who are eligible for admission have to participate in the joint seat allocation process by filling in their preferred choices of courses and institutes.

JEE Advanced AAT 2026

The BArch program is available at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee only. Candidates desirous of joining the BArch (Architecture) program will have to pass the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT). Only those candidates who have qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2026 are eligible to appear in AAT 2026. AAT will be conducted at all IITs. No separate admit card will be issued for AAT. The downloaded admit card of JEE (Advanced) 2026 has to be printed and produced in the AAT examination hall, along with the original photo identity card.

Candidates must register online at the JEE (Advanced) 2026 online portal for AAT. The test will consist of one paper of three hours duration in the English language only. Candidates should bring their own drawing and colouring aids. The results of AAT will be declared on the JEE (Advanced) 2026 online portal.
