Read on to know how JEE Main Postponement is going to affect other engineering entrance exams as well.

COVID 19 How rescheduling JEE Main to effect other engineering entrance tests

The Coronavirus outbreak across the globe is not only affecting the people but also stalling the growth in all the sectors including education. The recent notification by MHRD to reschedule all the exams with JEE Main as one of them is actually revealing how terrible the current situation is.

It is to be noted that rescheduling the biggest engineering entrance exam in India will have its impact on other engineering exams as well. Most of the popular engineering entrances are usually scheduled in the alternate weeks of April and May.

In its notification, the MHRD has specifically mentioned about the JEE Main as a lot of students travel to different towns/cities to appear in the exam. To avoid the spread of Coronavirus, it is necessary for citizens to stay at their homes as in a mass gathering (like at exam centres) people can’t identify who is infected with the virus.

Now to understand, how the postponement of JEE Main April 2020 exam will affect other exams, it is important to understand the schedules of a few important exams. The exam date for various engineering tests is given in the table below:

Now, looking at the above timeline of exams, it is obvious that most of the engineering entrance tests were scheduled one after the other. The dates for the majority of engineering entrance exams are clashing. Since the JEE main 2020 April exam is being rescheduled by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the dates for other tests also have to reshuffle. Nearly 9.5 lakh students appear in each session of the JEE Main of exam for admission to around two lakh engineering seats across the country. For every engineering aspirant, JEE Main will be a priority. If any exam will be clashing with the April session of JEE Main 2020, it is impossible for the other exam to get a significant number of test-takers.

The current situation will lead to other consequences as mentioned below:

Delay in other important events

Postponement of any exam will also lead to rescheduling of all other important events such as the release of the answer key, the announcement of the result, and counselling. Moreover, all exam conducting authorities will have to consider the dates of other top engineering exams' events while rescheduling their own. Therefore, deciding the schedule of conducting the exam and post-exam events is going to be very tough in the coming months, provided that the spread of Coronavirus remains controlled.

Delay in the beginning of the academic session

Again, rescheduling of exams will lead to a bigger problem, delay in the start of the session at various institutes. Most of the institutes in India begin their session from July mid-week or from August first week but for it to happen counselling must be completed in June. But looking at the current situation, it seems that the engineering entrance exams will be conducted in the month of May and will extend until June. This can push the start of academic session until September 2020.

With Coronavirus as one of the most frightening epidemics in history, the education sector of India is also being affected by it very badly. Along with focusing on exam preparation and other important things related to it, students must also focus on their health and hygiene. They should take all the precautions till all the exams are over and they are enrolled in an institute.

No. The JEE Mains emphasizes on deep knowledge and quote challenging with negative marking whereas KCET is moderately difficult which emphasizes on direct factual questions with no negative markings.
